NBA Free Picks: Clippers at Mavericks
2012-04-05 Dallas won’t have it easy as the Clippers seem to be on right zone having won the last five games in a row, including a 105-96 victory over the Utah Jazz on Saturday where they covered 5.5 spread; plus, the 201 combined points had the game OVER the total.

“It’s big because it could mean the difference between the fourth and fifth seed,” said Blake Griffin, who had 24 points in the Clippers’ win over the Jazz.

However, having won five straight is not a great thing, at least not for Chris Paul. “It ain’t a huge milestone,” Paul said. “You’ve got to strive for more than that. Every win now is crucial. We got to expect to win. The mindset is changing, and that’s a good thing.”

The problem with the Clippers is that they are not the best team away from the Staples Center, and they know it. LAC are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on the road, and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games when playing Dallas, according to the betting trends.

After getting blown out by the Miami Heat on Thursday, the Mavericks beat Orlando by two points on Friday. They covered the 5-point spread as underdogs.

“Watching Orlando all year long, we know that they’re a team that has relinquished a lot of leads … just the way they play,” Jason Terry said. “They’re either going inside, or they’re shooting 3s. You live by the 3 or you die by it.”

Despite the Clips are not a great team away from home, I don’t like the Mavs for this matchup. Dallas hasn’t found a rhythm, and they have struggled against good teams.

NFL Sneak Peek – Week 1 – Giants vs. Lions

The Giants and Lions both fell short of the playoffs last year each playing in divisions that earned just one postseason slot. Detroit was alive until the Giants beat them 23-20 in overtime during week 16 in Michigan. It also put the final nail in Lions coach Jim Schwartz’s coffin. Detroit seemed on their way to victory leading 20-13 late in the fourth quarter but New York scored a defense touchdown to tie the game, and kicked a game winning field goal on their second possession of overtime. The Lions final five chances with the ball ended with four punts and a defensive score. New York was limited to just 41 yards on the ground on 21 carries while the Lions scampered for 148 yards. The teams combined for five turnovers.

It’s been a busy summer for teams in the East’s Southeast Division.  Miami lost LeBron James, which automatically made for a bad summer, but did recuperate pretty nicely.  Charlotte is slowly becoming a very good team.  Washington was busy in free agency but will still rely on guards John Wall and Bradley Beal.  Orlando remains on the rebuilding path.  And finally, the Atlanta Hawks made some small but solid moves this summer.  Let’s take a closer look at each team’s offseason:

We continue our offseason grades with a look at the West’s Northwest Division.  Denver had a fruitful offseason, building both through the draft and by trading for Arron Afflalo.  Utah and Minnesota are rebuilding, but both teams added exciting prospects who have superstar potential.  Meanwhile, Oklahoma City and Portland are still the class of the division, but really failed to make game-changing moves.  Here’s how it all turned out:
