- What: WBC World Super Welterweight Title Fight
- Who: Keith Thurman vs. Sebastian Fundora
- Where: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
- When: Saturday, March 28 at 11:00 p.m. ET
WBC Super Welterweight Champion Sebastian Fundora will defend his title against Keith Thurman on March 28. The fight was originally scheduled for October 2025, but was postponed after Fundora suffered a hand injury.
Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) stands an astonishing 6-foot-5½ at 154 pounds. The 27-year old nicknamed “The Towering Inferno” uses his enormous reach to smother opponents. He is coming off a seventh-round TKO victory over Tim Tszyu in their July rematch. Fundora won the title by upsetting Tszyu via split decision in their first meeting.
Thurman (31-1-0, 23 KOs) is a former unified welterweight champion. He moved up to 154 pounds in March 2025 with a third-round KO of Brock Jarvis. His only professional loss came at the hands of Manny Pacquiao by a split decision in 2019. That defeat sent Thurman into a three-year layoff before returning in 2022.

We have to discuss the nearly foot height difference. Keith Thurman is listed at 5-foot-9½. Fundora is 6-foot-5½, and he believes a win over Thurman elevates him to superstar status. For Thurman, this represents a chance to prove he still belongs among the sport’s elite.
Can Thurman overcome Fundora’s reach and jab?

The first concern I have about Thurman is his fight inactivity. Despite the fight being delayed for an injury to Fundora, Thurman is the one in danger of ring rust. He’s only fought three times since 2019. He’s 37 years old fighting an active champion and has a massive size disadvantage.
"For him it's gonna be another day. I take it a little bit more serious than that. And he's going to find out when we step in the ring March 28, it's not another day. It's Thurman's day." – @KeithfthurmanJr.#FundoraThurman

The last time Thurman overcame a size disadvantage was when he defeated 5-foot-11 Carlos Quintana in 2012. He admittedly struggled against Demetrius Andrade in amateur matches. Andrade defeated Thurman three separate times. He stands 6-foot-1, which is significantly shorter than Fundora.
Thurman’s best chance of winning is through the early and middle rounds. His hand speed at 154 remains elite and his timing is among the best in boxing. He should have success early with sharp counters and lateral movement, perhaps even making Fundora look ordinary in stretches. However, sustaining that over 12 rounds against a younger, bigger fighter is challenging.
I expect Fundora’s relentless pressure and physical advantages to ultimately take over in the second half of this fight. I think he baits Thurman into a couple of bad spots. I’m eying Fundora to keep this title by a late stoppage or a comfortable decision.
I’d bet on Fundora at -360 to win this one.
Total Rounds
| Total Rounds | ![]() | ||
| Over 9.5 | -115 | -115 | -120 |
| Under 9.5 | -115 | -115 | -110 |
Oddsmakers have set the over/under at 9.5 rounds, with next to even odds on both sides. The pick is the under. Fundora finishes this fight in nine rounds or fewer. His last five fights have averaged 8.4 rounds, while Thurman’s have averaged 10.2. The gap in those numbers tells the story of two different fighters.
That said, I expect Thurman to make it competitive and put up a real challenge. But Fundora is a finisher who accumulates damage round after round until his opponents crumble. The Tszyu rematch ended in seven. The Lubin fight lasted nine rounds. Fundora’s stoppages come in the middle to late rounds, not early. Thurmans’ chin and veteran savvy should keep him competitive through the first half of the fight.

However, the accumulation of Fundora’s body work and length should take its toll. Fundora will overwhelm Thurman, ending the fight before the final bell.
