Let’s get into the breakdown of this bout. Garcia’s strengths are his exceptional hand speed and his signature left hook. However, he tends to leave his chin exposed when he jabs. This is a weakness Barrios is looking to target.
Barrios has switched trainers to Joe Goossen. Goossen previously trained Garcia. Barrios stands six feet tall with a 71-inch reach and a disciplined jab. Garcia stands at only five feet nine but compensates with a 73-inch reach. This will only be Garcia’s second fight at 147 pounds.

Barrios’s size advantage could become a major factor in the later rounds. Since Garcia has never completed a full 12-round fight at welterweight, conditioning could be a major factor in this fight. His loss to Romero exposed his lack of stamina and tendency to fade in later rounds.
Although Garcia has struggled in the later rounds, he is elite at the start of his fights. His speed and powerful left hook have dropped multiple fighters. He knocked down Devin Haney three times and stopped Oscar Duarte (Round 8 TKO) and Luke Campbell (Round 7 TKO).
Can Barrios take advantage of Garcia’s troubling defensive habits?
Garcia’s poor defense was exposed by Gervonta Davis in 2023. Davis knocked Garcia down twice in that fight. Garcia was also knocked down in round two against Romero.
I’m not quite understanding the oddsmakers’ pricing of this one. I have not seen anything from Ryan Garcia to garner any confidence in picking him. I certainly don’t believe he should be a -250 favorite in this fight.
I’m going to take the more dependable fighter in this one. Backing Barrios at +220 at Bovada is the play in this one.

Barrios is a volume puncher who typically grinds out fights. His last two fights went deep into the championship rounds. His best strategy in this fight will be to outwork Garcia over 12 rounds. He will need to take advantage of Garcia’s unproven conditioning at 147 pounds.
Oddsmakers are favoring Garcia to win by decision. I disagree because this would require Garcia to box smart for all 12 rounds. I haven’t seen Garcia do this in a while and am not confident he can.
The fight goes over 10.5 rounds, but I think Barrios wins in a split decision.
