The undefeated Gervonta Davis puts his WBA lightweight title on the line on January 7, 2023, when he faces WBA super featherweight champion Hector Luis Garcia at Capital One Arena in Washington DC. The title fight streams on Showtime pay-per-view.
Davis, who hails from Baltimore, has a 27-0 career record. The man who goes by “Tank,” has won 25 of those fights via knockout. At 28, Davis is coming off a May knockout win over Rolando Romero. Davis is the No. 2 rated fighter at lightweight, according to The Ring.

Gervonta Davis is a massive favorite over Hector Luis Garcia. However, that doesn’t mean he won’t put up a good fight and if Garcia needs any inspiration to be at his best on January 7, he will find it in the fact that Davis is reportedly already booked to face Ryan Garcia in April in Las Vegas. That doesn’t means Davis is taking Garcia lightly. However, that doesn’t mean Garcia can’t or won’t use the booking as inspiration.
Garcia is familiar with long odds. He stepped in on short notice to face Chris Colbert in February. Colbert was a -4000 favorite in that fight. Despite that, Garcia, who was the +700 underdog, won the contest via unanimous decision.

Garcia‘s style is to use his jab to draw out his opponent. He can counter well of the jab. He can also use the jab to launch his offense via fast combinations. Garcia can also force his opponent into a high guard via that jab and look to exploit that guard via shots to the body and follow-ups to the head. The big issue for Garcia is that this is his first fight at 135 pounds. Just moving up a weight division can be difficult, but doing so against one of the best fighters at that weight is too much to ask for Garcia.
One of the most potent pound-for-pound punchers in boxing, Davis also has fast hands and an ability to exploit his opponent’s weaknesses.. He will look to take advantage of Garcia’s tendency to back up in a straight line and keep his head on the center line. Neither of those things bodes well for anyone facing Davis.
