Opetaia opens as massive favorite
Jai Opetaia (-7500) is a heavy favorite to defeat Claudio Squeo (+1600) on Australia’s Gold Coast this Sunday. However, the IBF cruiserweight champion apparently didn’t want to leave anything to chance. He postponed the original fight date a month so he could recover from a minor injury.
Opetaia’s sixth title defense is taking place about an hour down the road from his hometown of Brisbane, Australia. Meanwhile, this is his opponent’s first fight outside of Italy. A relative unknown, Squeo is the No. 14 contender with the IBF. After downing Orlando de Jesus Estrada last October in a six-round fight, this will be his first scheduled 12-round bout.

Frustration boils over
Coming off a brutal fourth round knockout of David Nyika in January, this will be Opetaia’s fourth fight in the past 12 months. But it’s not the match-up the 29-year-old southpaw was after. “It’s bullshit,” said the Ring and IBF cruiserweight world champion after being forced to wait for a unification bout with Ramirez. “I’ve got two belts, he has got two belts. I want to push for this fight. It just does not make sense to me why it is not getting over the line.”
“I’m not taking [Squeo] lightly. [But] I’m chasing Zurdo. My eyes are locked on [those unification fights]. Now this guy’s in the way and we’ve got to remove him.”

12 rounds unlikely
Oddsmakers don’t expect the bout to last 12 rounds. Bettors can get +650 if they expect the fight to go the distance with ‘No’ being at -1200. Opetaia has 21 knockouts is 27 career fights. Just four of his career victories have come from unanimous decisions.
