Jake Paul heavily favored
Jake Paul (-550) is a heavy favorite in his 10-round cruiserweight matchup with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The YouTuber turned prizefighter is coming off a highly-publicized victory over Mike Tyson last November on Netflix.
He almost had another blockbuster bout scheduled with both Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta “Tank” Davis before the fights fell apart. Now, he’ll settle for another past-his-prime opponent in Chavez.

Who is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr?
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (+350) is a former WBC middleweight champion and the son of a boxing legend. But the soon-to-be 40-year-old hasn’t held a major world title in well over a decade. Since losing his WBC strap to Sergio Martinez in 2012, he’s gone 8-6 in the ring after starting with a 46-0-1 career record.
Chavez lost a one-sided decision to Alvarez in 2017 and suffered an embarrassing defeat to former MMA champion Anderson Silva in 2021. However, when he last stepped inside the ring last July, “El Gallo” outpointed MMA fighter Uriah Hall.
Jake Paul’s ascension
Upon turning pro five years ago, Jake Paul won won six straight fights to start his career before suffering a split-decision loss to Tommy Fury in February 2023. The 28-year-old rebounded with a unanimous decision victory over Nate Diaz a few months later. After knocking out three nobodies in his next three bouts, Paul beat Tyson via decision last November.
“I just defeated the baddest man on the planet, and now I’m going against a former champion who conman Canelo couldn’t finish,” commented Paul in the lead up to his bout against Chavez.
It’s sad to see Julio Cesar Chavez Jr always disappointing Chavez Sr.
The Mexican legend doesn’t deserve this ☹️

Chavez a worthy opponent?
While Paul will be derided for picking a fight against another aging opponent, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has undeniable power, a punishing left hook and a solid chin. If he dedicates himself to a full camp and shows up in shape, he’ll have a slight chance to score an upset.
