- The British Academy Film Awards will take place at Royal Festival Hall in London, England on February 19, 2023
The BAFTA Film Awards will take place this Sunday, three weeks before the 95th Academy Awards. For those unfamiliar with the BAFTAs, they’re basically the British Oscars. But they don’t just have Hollywood royalty at the ceremony, they have the real deal. Prince William and Kate Middleton have confirmed they’ll be in attendance at Royal Albert Hall.

Banshees leads the way
The Banshees Of Inisherin (-200) is the BAFTA frontrunner. The black comedy is also a resounding favorite to capture Best British Film at -1000. And, in the past 30 years, only three flicks have taken home both honors. Could that open the door for Everything Everywhere All At Once (+150)? After all, it’s a heavy favorite (-260) to claim the Best Picture Oscar over Banshees (+300).
Set in Ireland, Banshees is a UK co-production. That’s important as past BAFTA winners such as The King’s Speech (2010), Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017), and 1917 (2019) all had British production ties. That said, plenty of American pictures have claimed Best Film BAFTAs, including Argo, Boyhood, La La Land and Nomadland.

Park Chan-wook (Decision To Leave) | +2500 |
Todd Field and TÁR are great longshots
TÁR is +1200 to win Best Film and its director Todd Field (+800) is also a huge underdog. However, there could be a big betting opportunity here. The London Film Critics Circle crowned both TÁR and Field a few weeks back, and history shows a heavy correlation with the British Film Academy. In fact, “London” and the BAFTAs have awarded the same Best Film in seven of the past nine years. The Brits also love the film’s star, Cate Blanchett, who is heavily favored to win her third Best Actress BAFTA.
Oddly enough, Edward Berger (+800) is a longshot for Best Director as well. His movie All Quiet On The Western Front is at +1000 to reel in Best Picture despite it receiving more nominations (14) than any other film this year.

Colin Farrell is a lock
Colin Farrell (-325) is a stone cold lock to win his first BAFTA award for his performance in Banshees. The 46-year-old already claimed the Golden Globe and was the top choice of the London film critics. His primary competition, Brendan Fraser (+250) and Austin Butler (+600), are American actors in inferior films.

Viola Davis (The Woman King) | +2000 |

Emma Thompson (Good Luck To You | Leo Grande) |
Will Blanchett book another BAFTA?
Cate Blanchett (-300) is up for her third Best Actress BAFTA after winning previously for Elizabeth (1998) and Blue Jasmine (2013). The “Australian Meryl Streep” is also the frontrunner for her third Best Actress Oscar. Michelle Yeoh (+250) is her primary competition for both awards. But while Everything Everywhere All At Once was super creative and fun, her performance was not nearly as impressive as Blanchett’s.
