- Rege-Jean Page (+400) is favored to be the next actor to play James Bond
- Amazon now owns the rights to the 007 franchise after purchasing MGM
- Jamie Dornan’s incredible performance in the TV show The Tourist makes him a sneaky bet to take over for Daniel Craig at +1200
The 25th installment in the James Bond franchise, No Time To Die, proved to be the biggest box office hit of the pandemic, earning over $774 million. With Daniel Craig leaving the iconic spy franchise after starring in five films over a 15-year span, speculation is running rampant on which actor will take over as 007.

Next James Bond
Bond now owned by Amazon
After closing a $8.45 billion purchase of MGM back in March, Amazon now owns the James Bond catalogue, with 25 Bond flicks coming to Prime Video in a matter of days. However, the Broccoli family reportedly still retains creative control so we shouldn’t expect real-life supervillain Jeff Bezos to ruin the revered franchise anytime soon.
That means the casting decision on Bond 26 still lies with Barbara Broccoli and her brother Michael G Wilson. Back in 2021, the 61-year-old producer said Ian Fleming’s iconic character “should be British” and added that “British can be any [ethnicity or race]”. However, she also nixed the idea of woman playing the part.

Speaking in a recent interview, Broccoli said there was still much to decide before casting the role: “Are [the next set of 007 movies] going to be more humorous or less humorous, more gritty or not gritty?… So, no, it’s not just ‘Oh, who looks good in a suit?’ We have to figure this out on our own.”
Traditionally, the producers have chosen to elevates actors to the A-list rather than choosing already established stars. Sean Connery was a nobody before Bond, Pierce Brosnan’s most recent hit was Mrs. Doubtfire, and Daniel Craig had just burst onto the scene with the indie film Layer Cake.
007 “favorites” have no shot
Regé-Jean Page (+400) is a handsome English actor who would bring some much-needed diversity to the Bond franchise, but the guy’s practically a soap opera star. No way the 34-year-old Bridgerton actor secures the role. Ditto for Idris Elba (+500), I’m afraid, whose star has been in decline for years despite being fantastic in The Wire.
Tom Hardy (+600) was reportedly “cast” as the next 007 back in 2020, but does James Bond mumble? I don’t think so. Aiden Turner (+700) is a complete nobody, Henry Cavill (+800) was already Superman, and Cillian Murphy (+800) of Peaky Blinders fame profiles more as a Bond villain than Bond himself.

Who will be the next Bond?
Jamie Dornan (+1200) will become the eighth actor to play James Bond following in the footsteps of Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Enough time has passed to forgive the hunky 39-year-old for Fifty Shades of Grey, and Brosnan already set the precedent for an Irish Bond.
Dornan was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and most recently starred in Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast, which secured eight Academy Award nominations and won the Oscar for “Best Original Screenplay.”

Not only was Dornan’s acting ability respected enough to land him in an Oscar-nominated movie, he couldn’t have been cooler or more charismatic in The Tourist, a limited six-episode series now streaming on HBO Max.
Just as Daniel Craig’s performance in Layer Cake landed him the role, Dornan’s turn as a hitman with amnesia will convince the Broccoli’s that he’s worthy to womanize and sip martinis on the big screen.
