Let’s take a look at the opening Oscars Betting Odds for Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Picture and make our picks. Here’s also where you can check out the top betting sites for Entertainment in 2023.
2024 Best Actor Oscar
Actor | ![]() |
Leonardo DiCaprio (Killers of the Flower Moon) | +200 |
Joaquin Phoenix (Beau is Afraid) | +200 |
Colman Domingo (The Color Purple) | +250 |
Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) | +300 |
Can Leo win another one?
Leonardo DiCaprio (+200) has called Martin Scorsese‘s new film, Killers Of The Flower Moon, “a masterpiece.” If he’s right, the 48-year-old could be in line for his second-career Best Actor Oscar after winning for The Revenant in 2016. Following his Joker triumph in 2020, Joaquin Phoenix (+200) is also in the mix for his second Academy Award. Phoenix plays the lead in Beau is Afraid, a new comedy-horror from Ari Aster, director of Hereditary and Midsommar.
The only other actors on the board are Colman Domingo (+250), for the musical adaptation of The Color Purple. And Cillian Murphy (+300), who plays the titular role in Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie on the Manhattan Project.

2024 Best Actress Oscar
Actress | ![]() |
Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer) | +200 |
Carey Mulligan (Maestro) | +205 |
Fantasia Barrino (The Color Purple) | +225 |
Margot Robbie (Barbie) | +325 |
A nod for Margot Robbie?
Emily Blunt (+200) opened as the favorite for Oppenheimer. While the British actress is excellent in everything, it’s unlikely she or Murphy wins an acting prize for a big-budget summer blockbuster. Carey Mulligan (+205) was robbed of a Best Actress award in 2020 for Promising Young Woman. Perhaps she’ll have better luck this year with Maestro, a film starring, co-written and directed by Bradley Cooper.
The role of Barbie doesn’t seem like Oscar bait at first glance, but don’t count out Margot Robbie (+325) just yet. The film is directed by Greta Gerwig, who picked up Best Screenplay nominations for Lady Bird (2018) and Little Women (2022).
2024 Best Picture Oscar
Film | ![]() |
Killers of the Flower Moon | +250 |
Oppenheimer | +255 |
The Color Purple | +325 |
Asteroid City | +600 |
The Killer | +600 |
Dune: Part Two | +750 |
Top Academy Award favorites
Killers of the Flower Moon (+250), Oppenheimer (+255) and The Color Purple (+325) are the top contenders for Best Picture, as all three are probably locks to be nominated.
Scorsese’s film catalog has already earned him 20 wins and 91 nominations. Nolan’s blockbusters are always recognized for Visual Effects and receive courtesy Best Picture nods. And the original Color Purple movie was nominated for 11 Academy Awards.

Other early contenders
Asteroid City (+600) is the latest flick from Wes Anderson. While the legendary director usually picks up Oscar nominations for the weird visual worlds he creates, an Academy Award is almost out of the question at this point. Same goes for Dune: Part 2 (+750), which is more likely to compete with Oppenheimer for the VFX awards.
All this to say, it’s likely too early to bet on any of these movies, especially with only six available to wager on. However, David Fincher’s The Killer (+600) at least offers worthwhile odds as he’s already been nominated for Best Director three times previously.
