Which Landman character will be killed off in Season 2’s final episode?

Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman” returned for its second season on November 16, 2025, with the tagline “Sooner or later, something’s got to break,” setting an ominous tone for what lies ahead.

The series follows Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton, who has risen from crisis manager to president of M-Tex Oil following the death of CEO Monty Miller in Season 1. Season 2 finds Tommy navigating treacherous waters both personally and professionally as secrets emerge and oil gushes forth.

The cast includes his ex-wife, Angela; his son, Cooper, who’s starting his own oil business; his daughter, Ainsley; and newcomer T.L. Norris (Sam Elliott), Tommy’s father. Key players also include causation lawyer Rebecca Falcone, petroleum engineer Dale Bradley, cartel boss Gallino, and Sheriff Walt Joeberg.

The central storyline centers on M-Tex’s precarious financial situation, particularly a high-risk $400 million offshore drilling decision that could either save or destroy the company. With tensions mounting, cartel involvement deepening, and ominous foreshadowing surrounding several characters, the season finale promises explosive consequences.

As the pressure intensifies, one question looms: who won’t survive the Texas oil boom? Let’s examine who the oddsmakers believe won’t make it to the third season.

Boss

Theodore “Boss” Ramone, portrayed by Mustafa Speaks, is the lead oil crewman working with Cooper Norris on his second crew. Boss is an experienced member of Tommy’s crew, tough and seen-it-all, defined by three core traits: competence, toughness, and loyalty.

His competence isn’t just technical; it’s interpersonal. Boss knows how to motivate workers, when to push them harder, when to show compassion, and how to maintain crew morale under brutal conditions. When Antonio’s arm becomes trapped in the drill pipe elevator, Boss immediately takes charge. He’s barking orders, coordinating the rescue, and ensuring the injured worker is safely brought down from the derrick.

In Season 2, Episode 8, when Tommy promotes Cooper to project manager, Boss respectfully questions the decision, noting that Cooper was just “worming” for him months ago, demonstrating his protective instincts and earned authority on the rig.

Boss represents workers who’ve sacrificed their physical health for economic security, embodying the dangerous reality of oil field labor. He’s priced as the favorite at even money at BetOnline.

After being rewarded for completing 20 years at M-Tex, it seems cruel for him to meet an untimely death. I’d pass on betting on Boss for a character with better value.

TL Norris

Sam Elliott plays T.L. Norris, Tommy’s father, introduced in Season 2, who lives in a retirement community and has a limp from years of hard labor. When T.L. learns his wife Dorothy died in her sleep at a memory care facility, he responds that he will see her in Hell, unable to speak at her funeral due to unresolved grief.

T.L. admits he wasted years hoping Dorothy would return to being the loving woman he first fell in love with, rather than accepting who she had become.

The character is depicted as regretful and sometimes violent, with the Season 2 trailer showing him using a wheelchair and punching someone out. T.L. is described as an old Texas wildcatter who drilled wells in unexplored areas, hoping for a gusher.

He’s ornery and beaten down by a hard life in the West Texas oil fields, seemingly resigned to “whatever happens, happens.”

His arrival reopens old wounds between father and son, forcing them to confront a fractured relationship they’ve avoided for years. After just being introduced this season, it seems unlikely he won’t make it to next season. I’d pass on this option as well.

Gallino

Andy Garcia plays Danny “Gallino” Morrell, the Cuban-American head of an international drug cartel. He presents publicly as a legitimate financial investor. Gallino saved Tommy’s life at the end of Season 1 by killing cartel leader Jimenez, but only to diversify the cartel’s interests and get into the oil industry.

Gallino operates under the public persona of Dan Morrell, founder of Sonrisa, a financial institution that lends money to oil companies and is almost surely a front for cartel operations. In Season 2, Episode 2, it’s revealed that Gallino is also the secret backer of Cooper’s new oil venture, pulling both father and son into his grasp.

Garcia helped shape Gallino’s backstory, describing him as a Cuban or Caribbean figure who grew up in or around Miami with ties to South America before moving to Texas.

This is the first one I’d recommend betting at the price. At +275, the odds imply just over a 26% chance that Gallino dies in the season finale. I like those chances and that price.

Nathan

Colm Feore portrays Nathan, M-Tex Oil’s corporate attorney and administrator. He shares living quarters with Tommy Norris and Dale Bradley in a modest rental house. Nathan represents the legal and ethical guardrails that keep M-Tex from crossing lines that could destroy the company.

Tommy brings in Nathan to review Cooper’s contract with Sonrisa. After digging through the details, Nathan uncovers that it traces back to Dan Morrell. This gives Tommy the leverage to confront Cooper. He manages legal fallout, regulatory pressure, and crisis communication while delivering increasingly dire news about looming litigation and impossible drilling timelines.

Nathan serves as the audience’s baseline of what’s right and wrong, making him vital as the show navigates controversial storylines. He’s fundamentally defined by his tension between professional duty and personal ethics. On the one hand, he’s a brilliant corporate attorney who could work anywhere but chooses to live with field operations personnel.

This is my favorite longshot. He’s an older character on the show, and his death would come as a surprise. At +900, you’re getting tremendous value on a character whose demise would shock audiences while serving the narrative.
