Esports Picks: 2022 Rocket League Fall Major

  • What: Rocket League Fall Major 2022
  • Date: December 8-11, 2022
  • Location: Rotterdam Ahoy in Rotterdam, Netherlands

The 2021-22 Rocket League Championship Series ended on August 14, 2022, with Europe’s Team BDS taking the title. Team BDS triumphed over North America’s G2 Esports at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The win was the first title for Team BDS. Meanwhile, G2 Esports settled for the runner-up spot for a second time. The team finished in the same spot in 2019, losing to Europe’s Team Vitality that year.

The teams competing in the 2022-23 Rocket League Championship series hope to have the same run that Team BDS did in 2021-22. Last year, Team BDS opened the season with a win in the Fall Major and closed it with their first RLCS title. This year’s Fall Open was the only event of the year to have fully open qualifiers. For the Winter and Spring Majors, the eight teams with the most points will auto-qualify. The remaining eight slots will be claimed through open qualifiers.

The prize pool for the 2022 Fall Major is $310,000 USD. The winner takes home $100,000. The second-place club pockets $60,000. Teams who finish in third and fourth each win $25,000.

Gen. G

If you’re looking for a team that has momentum heading into the 2022 Rocket League Fall Major, look no further than Gen. G. The North American team took home second at the Fall Open as well as the Fall Cup. They then won the Fall Invitational with a sweep over FaZe Clan.

The top-seeded team from North America has only lost six series this year. However, two of those defeats came in the final — one to Version1 and the other to FaZe Clan. That’s something to keep in mind when considering how Gen. G will perform in international competition.

FaZe Clan

With a first-place in the Fall Open and a second-place in the Fall Invitational, North America’s FaZe Clan need to be considered a threat to win the 2022 Rocket League Fall Major. Those finishes came after a 3rd/4th place finish at the RLCS Worlds in August, so it does not appear as if the team has lost anything with the move to the new RLCS season.

FaZe Clan has a win over Gen. G this year, beating them in the Fall Open, but they were swept by Gen. G in the more recent Fall Invitational and that finish could be a cause for concern.

The team has yet to click as a unit this year, but FaZe Clan has some of the best individual players in the game right now.

Team Falcons

The No. 1 ranked team in the Middle East and North Africa, Team Falcons are performing well heading into the 2022 Rocket League Fall Major. The team took first in its regional Fall Cup and Fall Invitational after finishing in the 9th-12th spot in the 2022 World Championship.

The worry about Team Falcons is that they have not faced the level of competition in the Middle East and North Africa that they will face in the international event in December. That’s not to say Team Falcons can’t win, but they need to play at a higher level, something the squad found out in August at the Worlds.

Our pick

It really looks like a North American team is likely to emerge as the winner of the 2022 Rocket League Fall Major. I think FaZe Clan will work through their issues as a team ahead of this event and with that I believe they are the best bet to win the RLCS Fall Major.

Pick: Faze Clan to win the 2022 Rocket League Fall Major.
