  • What: Call of Duty League Stage 4 Major
  • Date: April 20-23, 2023
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • How to Watch: Twitch, YouTube, Callofduty.com

The Call of Duty Stage 4 Major goes down this week in Columbus, Ohio. The event was initially slated to take place in New York, but the host team, the New York Subliners, had to opt out of hosting the event. The CDL Major 4 event features 12 of the best Call of Duty teams. The event has a total prize pool of $500,000. The winner takes home $200,000. The runner-up pockets $120,000, while third place earns $80,000, and fourth place gets $40,000. Unfortunately, with the late move of the event, CDL Major 4 will not have a crowd on hand.

CDL Major IV is the fourth of five Call of Duty regular events  scheduled for 2023. In addition to the prize money involved in the tournament, the 12 participating teams will be vying for CDL Points. Those points will help them qualify for the CDL Championship 2023 event. That tournament is scheduled to take place between June 15-18 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas.

The 12 teams participating in the CDL Major 4 event are: OpTic Texas, LA Thieves, Atlanta FaZe, Seattle Surge, New York Subliners, Boston Breach, Toronto Ultra, Las Vegas Legion, Minnesota R0KKR, Florida Mutineers, LA Guerillas, and London Royal Ravens.

OpTic Texas

OpTic Texas are coming into the CDL Major IV with more momentum than any other team. The club went 5-0 in the Stage 4 Major Qualifiers earlier this month. They also finished as the runner-up to Toronto Ultra at the CDL Stage 3 Major event in March after placing fourth in the Stage 2 Major in February. About that, Stage 2 Major, OpTic Texas also won the qualifier for that event before placing in the fourth spot, so there might some apprehension in picking the team to win in Ohio.

OpTic Texas opens the event against Boston Breach.

LA Thieves

The Los Angeles Thieves were the third-place team at the Call of Duty Major 4 qualifiers. The team was the runner-up squad at the CDL Major 2 event in February. Before that, they wrapped up the Stage 1 Major, which took place in December in the 5th-6th spot. The only loss the LA Thieves suffered in the qualifier was to OpTic Texas.

Los Angeles should play well in the opening round as they draw Minnesota R0KKR as their first opponent. The Thieves downed that squad 3-0 in the final week of the CDL Major IV qualifier.

Atlanta FaZe

The Atlanta FaZe are a threat to win any event they compete. However, the team enters the Call of Duty Major 4 tournament after a bit of a shaky performance in the qualifier, where the team went 3-2. However, FaZe won the CDL Stage 2 Major in February, so recent performances by this club are not always going to be an indication of what they will do in the future.

Atlanta does not have an easy draw to open the event as they face the Seattle Surge in the first round, a team that has a history of giving them troubles.

Best bet to win Call of Duty Major 4

LA Thieves are a live underdog heading into this event, but the best bet for the CDL Major 4 is to go with the hot team, and right now, that team is OpTic Texas.
