We’re only days away from the famed British Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit in England. If you’re looking for winning bets to make for F1 British GP, then you’ve come to the right place! We have free betting advice on two separate wagers in this very article!
Before we give out our first picks, let’s see who the betting favorites even are. For the race winner, these five drivers have the best betting lines, per online sportsbooks:
Driver | ||
Max Verstappen | -140 | -140 |
Lewis Hamilton | +165 | +160 |
Valterri Bottas | +1200 | +1100 |
Sergio Perez | +1200 | +1100 |
Lando Norris | +5000 | +5000 |
Betting Pick — British GP Winner
We’re not even halfway into the Formula 1 season yet it feels like Lewis Hamilton is facing a “must-win” situation. As crazy as that sounds on the surface, especially given Hamilton’s all-time greatness, it really feels that way. Hamilton hasn’t won a race since early May (which is his longest win drought in years) and is now 32 points behind Max Verstappen in the standings. Worse, he’s completely fallen off a cliff in the betting odds for the world championship.
But the England native is returning to his “home” track at Silverstone. With seven wins at this very competition (including five of the last six), no driver in F1 history is more accomplished at Silverstone than Hamilton. If Hamilton and Mercedes are going to mount a comeback against Verstappen and Red Bull, it almost has to start with this competition.
Though, there is a brand-new twist to the British GP. The day before, there will be a qualifying “sprint” race. This is the first year such a race has been instituted into the historic event. It will effectively set the grid for the British GP, which will run under normal conditions. Furthermore, the top three finishers in Saturday’s sprint event earn points in the drivers’ standings — three points go to the winner, two for the next, and one for third place. As much as 29 points could go to a driver if they win both Silverstone competitions.
That’s another reason why this feels like a must-win for Hamilton. If Verstappen takes the full 29 points, it would squarely put him in the driver’s seat to win the world title and finally end Hamilton’s “reign of terror.”
All-time greats just have a way of coming up clutch when their back is against the wall. While we have our doubts about Hamilton’s 2021 outlook beyond the British GP, we think he’ll muster a victory on Sunday somehow, someway. Unlike the English soccer team, he’ll “bring it home” (sorry, Three Lions fans)!
Prop Betting Pick — Fastest Lap
Plenty of props are available on the British GP. From the fastest qualifier to the grid position winner, you can find something well beyond the race-winner moneyline wager. We love the fastest lap prop and betting odds for it can be found below:
Driver | ||
Max Verstappen | +120 | +120 |
Lewis Hamilton | +200 | +200 |
Valterri Bottas | +450 | +450 |
Sergio Perez | +450 | +450 |
Lando Norris | +2500 | +2500 |
Hamilton has remained more competitive with Verstappen in this department. On the season, Verstappen has four fastest lap wins, while Hamilton has three (the only other winner has been Valtteri Bottas with two). That’s why you can get Verstappen at plus-money odds here.
Our pick to make here is Verstappen. There’s no question that his Red Bull car is the fastest in the entire circuit. Until that fact changes, which seems unlikely at this point, we advise keeping betting Verstappen in this prop the rest of the season. Mercedes themselves have said improvements on its car in 2021 will be almost nonexistent as they’re completely focused on 2022 already which doesn’t bode well for Hamilton or Bottas.
