The Formula 1 circus heads to the iconic Lusail International Circuit from November 28-30 for one of the season’s most pivotal moments. As the penultimate round of the championship, this Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix will be crucial in determining who takes the fight to Abu Dhabi for the final showdown.
With Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris leading the drivers’ standings, McLaren finds itself in a commanding position in the constructors’ championship. However, Max Verstappen remains a formidable contender, and the midfield continues to tighten. Every point matters in this intense battle for supremacy, making Qatar’s double points-scoring opportunity—it’s a Sprint weekend—particularly significant.

Lando Norris
Lando Norris enters Qatar as one of the weekend’s strongest favorites. The McLaren driver has demonstrated exceptional pace throughout the season and appears to have found the optimal setup for Lusail’s unique layout.
With his consistent performances in recent weeks and McLaren’s technological advantage, Norris will be looking to secure crucial points in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix.
His ability to manage tire degradation and execute clean pit stops could prove the difference in this high-stakes battle. The British driver’s confidence heading into Qatar, combined with the car’s inherent speed, positions him as the one to beat.

Should he capitalize on this opportunity, he could significantly strengthen his championship position going into the Abu Dhabi finale. His rivals will need to be at their absolute best to prevent Norris from dominating the weekend and taking a commanding lead into the season-closing race.
I would wager on Lando winning this race and going into Abu Dhabi with complete control

Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen arrives in Qatar with his characteristic determination and proven racecraft. Despite McLaren’s recent dominance, the Red Bull driver has consistently shown he can extract maximum performance from his machinery when it matters most.
Verstappen’s aggressive driving style and tactical acumen make him a dangerous proposition on any circuit, and Lusail’s overtaking opportunities could play into his strengths.
While Red Bull may lack the outright pace of McLaren, Verstappen’s ability to capitalise on strategic openings or rivals’ mistakes cannot be underestimated. His experience in high-pressure championship moments gives him an edge, and a strong performance here could shift momentum heading into Abu Dhabi.

Verstappen will need to qualify well and manage his tires effectively to challenge the McLaren drivers. Still, his track record suggests he’s more than capable of pulling off an upset victory. With everything to play for, Verstappen will be pushing hard to keep the championship battle alive.
It’s difficult to bet against Verstappen in this race, I would also wager on Verstappen to win here.
George Russell
George Russell enters Qatar as a dark horse contender with genuine potential to disrupt the championship battle. The Mercedes driver has demonstrated improved form recently and possesses the racecraft to maximize performance from his machinery. While Mercedes may not have the sheer pace of McLaren, Russell’s consistency and ability to capitalize on opportunities make him dangerous.

His strategic mind and clean driving could help him navigate the midfield traffic effectively and reach the podium. Russell has proven capable of winning races when circumstances align, and with McLaren potentially facing internal driver battles, an opening could emerge.
A strong result would be crucial for Mercedes’ constructors’ championship ambitions as well. As tempting it is to take Russell here, I would pass on him.
Oscar Piastri
Oscar Piastri heads to Qatar as a championship contender and will be eager to convert his points advantage into a dominant performance. The McLaren driver has shown impressive pace and consistency this season, and with the team’s strong machinery, he has all the tools to win.
Piastri’s smooth driving style suits technical circuits like Lusail, and his ability to manage pressure situations will be tested this weekend. A win here would significantly strengthen his championship position and put him in the driver’s seat heading into Abu Dhabi.

While Norris is his primary competitor within the team, Piastri cannot afford to drop points to external rivals. His focus will be on executing a flawless weekend across both the Sprint and Grand Prix formats.
Piastri is another driver I have to pass on in favor of his teammate, I believe Lando is better suited for this course.
