2026 F1 Constructor’s Championship Picks: A New Era Begins

  • What: F1 Constructor’s Championship.
  • When: Mar 7-December 6, 2026
  • Where: Melbourne, Australia; Shanghai, China; Suzuka, Japan; Sakhir, Bahrain; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Miami, USA; Montreal, Canada; Barcelona, Spain; Monaco; Spielberg, Austria; Silverstone, Great Britain; Spa, Belgium; Budapest, Hungary; Zandvoort, Netherlands; Monza, Italy; Madrid, Spain; Baku, Azerbaijan, Singapore; Austin, USA; Mexico City, Mexico; Sao Paolo, Brazil; Las Vegas, USA; Lusail, Qatar; Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

Formula 1 screeches out of the pit in Melbourne on March 8th. For the first time since 2014, no one truly knows who will hold the trophy come the finale in Abu Dhabi.

The reason for the uncertainty is the sweeping overhaul of the power units and new aerodynamic regulations for the race cars. The new power units retain the 1.6 litre V6 but dramatically boost electrical output. The MGU-K now produces 470 bhp, up from just 160.

There will also be a brand-new street circuit in Madrid for the Spanish Grand Prix. In addition, there will be six sprint rounds across the 24-race schedule.

McLaren’s coming off back-to-back championship wins. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri return as they seek a threepeat. Despite their history, oddsmakers have actually favored Mercedes over McLaren. Word in the paddock is that Mercedes might’ve nailed their new power unit, making them the team to beat.

Looking at the rest of the grid, Red Bull debuts a new car powered by Ford. Ferrari seems eager to bounce back after last season’s fourth-place finish. They’ve been surprising in testing, with Charles Leclerc having the fastest run in Bahrain. Aston Martin remains a wild card with the arrival of new team principal Adrian Newey.

We’ve also got two new teams to welcome: Audi enters as a full factory team after acquiring Sauber, and Cadillac makes its debut as F1’s eleventh team.

Mercedes

Are we set to return to an era of F1 where Mercedes dominates again? The last time F1 introduced new power unit regulations was 2014. Mercedes dominated the following seven seasons of F1, winning seven straight drivers’ and constructors’ championships.

Mercedes has a couple of advantages whenever there are changes to the power units. They’re able to integrate their new engine into the W17 chassis from the very start of development. While customer teams like McLaren had to wait for engine specifications before refining their own cars.

In addition to more time spent with the vehicle, Mercedes also supplies three customer teams: McLaren, Alpine, and Williams. Four cars are generating data on the new power unit, while Ferrari, Audi, and Honda each supply far fewer teams. More data tends to mean faster development, and faster development is what wins championships.

Team Principal Toto Wolff has assembled a team with George Russell and Kimi Antonelli as drivers. Russell is favored to win the driver’s championship as well this year.

Everything I read and hear about Mercedes sounds great. I’m hesitant to back them because I’m not convinced about Russell. During the previous run of dominance, Lewis Hamilton was behind the wheel. This price seems rich for my liking; I’d pass on Mercedes to win the Constructor’s Championship.

McLaren

No team has dominated the sport quite like the Woking outfit over the past two seasons. Last season, they set a new record with 34 podiums. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri return in hopes of winning a third straight constructors’ championship.

Will their momentum survive the changes? Chief designer, Rob Marshall, has stated that any built-in advantages from last year’s car are gone.

Despite having to essentially start over, the team remains confident. Regardless of the new rules, Piastri has stated he believes McLaren will be in the mix for the championship at season’s end. Team principal Andrea Stella has stressed that the first season under new rules will be defined by who develops fastest.

Lando and Piastri are two very talented drivers, but I fear McLaren won’t be able to maintain their top spot amidst all this change. Oddsmakers are pricing them at +250, which feels high considering the new changes to the engine and cars this year.

I would pass on McLaren at this price.

Red Bull

Max Verstappen remains one of the most dangerous drivers on any grid. Red Bull has decided to pair rookie Isack Hadjar with Verstappen this season. Hadjar joins Red Bull after an impressive debut season with Racing Bulls..

According to oddsmakers, Verstappen only trails Russell in regard to who can win the driver’s championship. But the real question surrounds the power unit and the car. Red Bull has partnered with Ford to build their own engine.

They poached several senior engineers from Mercedes to help. Early testing has drawn cautious optimism. However, if the Ford power unit turns out to be a dud, not even Max’s magic can save them.

That being said, this is way too much value to pass on. At +700 with one of the best drivers in F1, you should bet this. Hopefully, Hadjar can put forth a strong Checo impression, and Red Bull finds themselves constructors’ champions again.

Cadillac

The American outfit makes its debut as F1’s 11th team. Nobody expects them to challenge for the title. At +50000, this is a big long shot. However, the team is backed by General Motors and powered by Ferrari engines.

The team also has two accomplished drivers with championship-winning experience in Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas. Team Principal Graeme Lowdon has set realistic expectations for the team. Lowdon stated finishing anywhere outside of last would be considered a successful season.

Pre-season testing in Bahrain showed Cadillac trailing Ferrari by 3.3 seconds. The gap is wide, but the Cadillac team knows this is the first year of a long journey.

I can’t think of a more fun lotto to play. This Cadillac team will be one to keep our eye on. I’d recommend throwing a small wager on Cadillac to win this whole thing.
