Charles Leclerc’s 2022 Austrian Grand Prix Betting Odds were at +250 before taking the checkered flag last Sunday. The victory by the Monegasque driver put Ferrari 56 points back of Red Bull in the constructors’ standings at the midway point of the F1 season.

Can Red Bull be caught?
Charles Leclerc passed Max Verstappen three separate times in Spielberg to claim his fifth-career victory and move to second place in the championship chase. However, Ferrari (+260) blew a massive opportunity to make up ground on Red Bull (-275) in the constructors’ standings. Instead of cruising to a 1-2 finish at the Austrian GP, Carlos Sainz was forced to retire with engine failure – his fourth DNF in 11 races this season.
That leaves Red Bull 56 points up on the Scuderia heading into the French Grand Prix on July 24.

Ferrari shooting itself in the foot
Ferrari has seven poles and three wins this season compared to Red Bull, which has three poles and seven wins. So, while while the Scuderia may have Formula One’s fastest car, the team has been plagued by reliability issues and poor strategy. Before the Austrian GP, Leclerc had failed to reach the podium in five straight races. It was engine failure in the Spanish GP, engine penalties in Canada, and bad Ferrari decisions in Monaco, Baku and Silverstone.
As mentioned, the 24-year-old’s Spanish teammate has also run hot and cold all year. Sainz had top-two finishes in three consecutive races before his DNF on Sunday, and in the races he has been able to finish, he’s never fallen outside of the top four this season.
Verstappen and Perez
Max Verstappen battled tyre degradation at Red Bull Ring, but a second-place finish kept he and his team well ahead in the drivers’ and constructors’ standings. The Dutchman has claimed six of the season’s 11 checkered flags with teammate Sergio Perez adding another. That leaves Red Bull with seven victories to Ferrari’s four, with half of the F1 campaign still to go.
Like Sainz, Perez has been up and down of late. The Mexican has retired twice in the past five races while placing in the top-two in the other three events in that run. Needless to say, the 32-year-old’s performance in the second half of the year will be crucial to Red Bull capturing its first World Constructors’ Championship since 2013.

Best Bet
While laying down $275 to win $100 is not ideal by any means, we’re also not comfortable backing a Ferrari team that can’t seem to get out of its own way. Even after Ferrari’s consecutive victories, Red Bull (-275) is still well positioned to win their first constructors’ title in nine seasons.
