With a dominant 93-point lead, Max Verstappen has become a lock pick to win his second-consecutive Drivers World Championship. The Red Bull driver has captured nine of 14 events heading into his home race at the Zandvoort racetrack in the Netherlands.

Verstappen to repeat on home track?
Max Verstappen (-175) might be at the point of the season where he’s just bored and needs a challenge. Before summer break, he won the Hungarian Grand Prix despite qualifying a season-worst 10th. The reigning world champion followed that up with a Belgian Grand Prix triumph where he came all the way back from 14th to claim his third-straight victory and 29th of his career.
Regardless of his 93-point lead in the drivers’ standings, Verstappen should be plenty motivated to repeat on his home track. While the 24-year-old was born and raised in Belgium, he chose his father’s Dutch nationality the day he hopped into a race car. And last year on the podium, he draped himself with the flag of the Netherlands after winning the first race at Zandvoort since 1985.

Circuit Zandvoort
Zandvoort returned to the Formula 1 calendar in 2021 after a 35-year hiatus. Upon finishing a close second to Verstappen last year, Lewis Hamilton (+1200) said it was instantly one of “his favorite tracks” because the grandstands were so close to the track.
Swooping and flowing through the sand dunes, the old-school track is loved by drivers as it creates a rollercoaster-like feel to the lap. However, the 18-degree banking angle at Tarzan corner also makes the circuit plenty challenging.
Ferrari’s disaster season continues
Charles Leclerc (+375) has just one podium in the last nine Grands Prix after a series of blunders and penalties led to a sixth place showing at Spa-Francorchamps. Now 98 points behind Verstappen, the Ferrari driver was jumped in the standings by Sergio Perez (+900) last Sunday.
Red Bull secured their fourth one-two finish of the season at the Belgian GP. Clear of the Scuderia by 118 points, the team is a lock for their first constructors’ championship since 2013.

Lewis loses his cool
Still looking for his first triumph of the 2022 campaign, Lewis Hamilton (+1200) has the same odds as his Mercedes teammate George Russell (+1200). The seven-time world champion had taken five-straight podiums heading into Spa-Francorchamps, but suffered his fifth first-lap retirement of his career after a crash with Fernando Alonso (+25000).
The Brit apparently won’t talk to his former McLaren teammate, who labelled Hamilton an “idiot” who can only “drive and start in first”.
