The championship battle is exceptionally tight as it heads into Vegas. Lando Norris leads with 390 points, Oscar Piastri trails by just 24 points, and Max Verstappen sits 49 points back. The race takes place at night in November, with temperatures averaging eight degrees Celsius, creating unique low-grip challenges. With only 58 points available after Vegas across Qatar and Abu Dhabi, this weekend could prove pivotal in deciding the 2025 world championship.

Max Verstappen
Verstappen’s championship hopes are slim. If Norris produces another strong race, Verstappen’s challenge could end, given the limited points remaining. Verstappen admitted his deficit is likely too great, noting Red Bull’s earlier missed opportunities.
However, Verstappen brings momentum and experience. He’s won at Las Vegas before in 2023, and his recent form is impressive—averaging a 3.3 finish over the last five rounds compared to Norris at 5.9 and Piastri at 7.6. He has won five times in Mexico City, three times in São Paulo, twice in Qatar, and four times in Abu Dhabi, demonstrating his strength at the remaining venues.

Verstappen must maximize points and rely on mistakes from McLaren. Reliability and consistency are crucial; a non-finish could end his hopes. His experience and recent form offer a slim chance to remain in contention.
Verstappen is favored for a reason at this track. I absolutely expect him to win this race and ratchet up the pressure on both McLaren drivers. I would bet on Verstappen to win this at +150 odds.
Lando Norris
Norris cannot secure the title this weekend. Las Vegas is about minimizing losses ahead of the final rounds.
The challenge? McLaren has “never been good at” the Las Vegas track. Norris admitted it could be one of their toughest weekends, noting it was their worst track last year. In 2024, he finished sixth, 43 seconds behind the winner George Russell. In 2023’s inaugural race, he crashed out entirely.
The circuit’s cold temperatures and smooth surface create super low-grip conditions, favoring Mercedes and Ferrari over McLaren. Norris explained they were the slowest of the top four teams at Vegas last season. However, McLaren has worked hard to address these weaknesses and made significant improvements this year.

Norris’s strategy is simple: stay ahead of Piastri and limit Verstappen’s gains. A podium would be impressive, keeping his title hopes strong.
I would pass on Norris at this race, I believe he will be too cautious, actually, to try and win.

Oscar Piastri
Oscar Piastri faces a monumental uphill battle after hitting poor form at the worst possible time. Before the summer break, he had won six races and been off the podium only twice, displaying exceptional qualifying pace and racecraft. Since the Dutch GP, however, he hasn’t beaten Norris or Verstappen in any of the last six races, reaching the podium just once.
Las Vegas presents particular challenges for the Australian. Team boss Andrea Stella cited Piastri’s performance on low-grip tracks as a “red flag,” and historically, neither McLaren driver has qualified or finished better than sixth at this venue. The long straights and technical sections generally favor Red Bull’s package.

Despite sitting 24 points behind Norris, 83 points remain available in 2025, leaving plenty of opportunity for the Australian to mount a comeback. Betting markets reflect his underdog status at +800 odds to win in Vegas. Piastri must rediscover his early-season brilliance immediately, as momentum has shifted decisively in favor of his teammate, and any further missteps could end his title hopes entirely.
As tempting as it is to grab Piastri at these odds, I would pass as well. This one feels like Verstappen’s to lose.
