Sunderland (+700) vs. Chelsea (-250) (Draw +375)
Chelsea, undefeated in both the Premier League and the Champions League, may just be the best team in Europe. While some German and Spanish squads will have something to say about that, in time, it’s an overmatched domestic opponent – Sunderland – who will look to upset the Blues this Saturday (12:30 p.m. Eastern at the Stadium of Light).
Despite playing away, Chelsea is the heavy favorite, listed at -250 in the moneyline, while Sunderland is +700 and the draw +375.
Chelsea leads the Premier League with 32 points (10W, 2D, 0L) and a sterling +19 goal difference. In addition, the Blues have won 17 of the last 19 Premier League meetings against Sunderland. Spanish international Cesc Fabregas has scored four goals against Sunderland in league play, more than he has netted against any other team.
“Right now I feel I am playing some of the best football of my career. If I chose this challenge it is because I felt it could be this way but I didn’t come here just to play well, I came here to win trophies,” said the midfielder after Chelsea blanked West Brom (2-0) as -450 favorites last weekend.
Sunderland is 14th in the BPL table with only 13 points (2W, 7D, 3L) and -7 in the differential. Their seven draws are the most in the league. The squad knows Chelsea – home or away – is a difficult test.
“It is true that they are a top team and they are currently number one so we expect it to be difficult, but we hope to make it a good game and obtain a good result,” said the Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon. “We have already shown against good sides that we are a hard team to beat,” added the keeper.
Sunderland would likely consider an eighth draw a good result against the powerhouse Blues. That said, only Man City and Man United, two sides with a good deal more talent than Sunderland, have managed the feat against Chelsea in the BPL this year. Bet Chelsea to keep winning.
