World Series Game 4 Red Sox at Cardinals

A controversial ‘by the book’ call gave the St. Louis Cardinals a win in game three putting them ahead in the World Series 2-1 over the Boston Red Sox; game four will be play this Sunday night at 8:07 PM ET at Busch Stadium.

red sox vs cardinals 2013“Tough way to have a game end, particularly of this significance,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said.

You know the story; Allen Craig rushed to home plate in the 9th inning but got tripped by third baseman Will Middlebrooks who was on the ground after trying to catch a horrible throw by catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The umpire decided is obstruction; game over.

“I just know I have to dive for that ball. I’m on the ground. There’s nowhere for me to go,” Middlebrooks said.

The decision in game three will add a little of bad blood for game four, which will give a high intense match from start to finish.

Clay Buchholz will pitch for Boston, although he’s not 100% healthy with a shoulder issue. “I’ve said it a couple of times this year — I don’t think anybody, especially at this time of the season, is 100 percent”, he said.

“Giving the team a chance to win, that’s my goal,” Buchholz added.

For the Cardinals, the starting pitcher is Lance Lynn, who will be with 11 days of rest.  His last start was against the Dodgers in game 4 of the NLCS.

The betting odds for game four of the World Series have the Red Sox listed -104 in the moneyline and the Cardinals -106; the runs total is at 7.5.
