The Reds are 61-65 this season and have won only twice in 11 games in the series against the Cardinals, but both victories came when Cueto was on the mountain.

“As a manager, it’s very comfortable being able to put your stock into one guy,” Cincinnati’s Bryan Price said. “You go all in with Johnny and you don’t fear losing the game late.”

“He’s one of the best in the league. He’s an animal,” Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado said a few days ago after Cueto struck out six at Colorado on Friday.

Cueto is 15-6 this season with a 2.06 ERA and his last defeat was early in July; he has won six of his last seven outings with one no decision.

At the other side is Lance Lynn, who is 2-0 against the Reds this season, although he has a 6.55 ERA in those outings.  Lynn is 13-8 this season with a 2.91 ERA and has won his last two outings against San Diego and Baltimore.

“He has a real nice feel for all of his pitches right now,” manager Mike Matheny told MLB’s official website.

The baseball betting odds listed the Reds +106 in the money line to win the game, and the Cardinals -116; the run total is at 7.
