MLB Betting – Chicago Cubs at Detroit Tigers

Chicago Cubs (-107) at Detroit Tigers (-103, 8.5 o/u)

After dropping eight in a row and falling to third in the AL Central, the Detroit Tigers (31-28, 15-15 Home) have rebounded with a modest three-game win streak, including a 6-0 win over the Chicago Cubs (30-26, 15-15 Away) last night in the first of their two-game series. Today, the Tigers will send Shane Green (4-5, 5.40 ERA) to the mound in the finale against the Cubs’ Jake Arrieta (5-4, 3.05 ERA). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:08 PM Eastern at Comerica Park.

The Tigers got a stellar performance from Anibal Sanchez last night. The righty, who’s struggled most of the season, went 7.2 innings, allowing six hits and no runs. The top of the order provided the offense for Detroit with lead-off man Rajai Davis posting a double and a triple, number two hitter Ian Kinsler driving in two runs on two hits, and Miguel Cabrera going 3/3 with one RBI.  The win moved the Tigers within 3.5 games of division leading Kansas City in the Central.

Tonight, Green will be hoping to make it four in a row, but he’ll need to bounce back from three losses in his last three outings. Last time out, he gave up eight hits and six runs over just 4.1 innings in a 7-5 loss to Oakland. That came on the heels of a brutal 1.2-inning, five-home run performance against the Angels.

Arrieta, on the other hand, is coming off a nice outing against the Nationals in which he went six strong, giving up six hits and just one run. He’s now 2-2 in his last four, but is a solid 3-1-1 on the road this season.

Though the Tigers are hot and have home field advantage, betting on Green is not a solid option at the moment. Taking the consistent Arrieta and the Cubs looks like better value.

Pick: Cubs (-107).
