MLB Betting – New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays

New York Yankees (-105, 8 o/u) at Tampa Bay Rays (-105)

Former Cy Young award winner C.C. Sabathia is still looking for his first win of the 2015 season. The erstwhile ace will get the chance tonight as his New York Yankees (20-12, 11-5 Away) visit the Tampa Bay Rays (17-15, 8-8 Home) at Tropicana Field (7:10 PM Eastern Time).

Sabathia is 0-5 on the year with a 5.45 ERA in six starts.  He took the loss in a 5-1 setback against the Toronto Blue Jays last time out.

While Sabathia hasn’t been at the top of his game, by any stretch of the imagination, he’s also suffered from a lack of run support.

“He’s pitched well enough to win in two or three games,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “We just haven’t scored a lot of runs.”

The good news for the Yankees is that Sabathia’s rough start to the year hasn’t impacted the team, overall. The Yankees stretched their lead at the top of the AL East by taking three of four from the Orioles in their last series. Flame-thrower Michael Pineda recorded 16 strikeouts in seven innings in Sunday’s 6-2 victory.

Tampa, on the other hand, comes into tonight’s game after splitting a four game set with the Texas Rangers. They will send Alex Colome (2-0, 1.80 ERA) to the mound; Colome has made two career starts against the Yankees but has yet to record a decision.

The Yankees have won six of the last seven against the Rays, but Tampa won the last time they met.  The last three games have all stayed under total. Sabathia is eventually going to get his first win of the season, but with Colome pitching very well in his two starts this year, the Rays look like better value.

Pick: Rays (-105).
