NBA Odds – San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers

Tonight, San Antonio will play in California for the third time in less than a week when they face the Lakers at the Staples Center (10:00 p.m. Eastern). The NBA champions are hoping to leave the state with their third win in a row.

After a sluggish 2-3 start to the season, the Spurs have taken down two Western Conference heavyweights on the road in their last two games. Last Tuesday, Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard combined to score 47 points in the Spurs’ 113-100 win over the Golden State Warriors. That impressive win came just one day after the Spurs took down the Clippers, 89-85, at the Staples Center.

The Spurs are back at the Staples Center tonight to face a Lakers team that is looking for just its second win of the season. The worst fears for Lakers fans are coming true in the early part of the 2014-15 season. At 1-6, and already suffering from the injury bug, this year may be even worse than the last for Kobe Bryant and company. The problems for L.A. start on defense; the Lakers have the worst defense in the league, allowing 111.9 points per game.

Adding to the embarrassment, Bryant recently acquired the dubious record of most missed shots in a career (13,418). During the Lakers’ 107-102 loss to the Grizzlies on Monday, Bryant’s 13th miss of the game moved him one ahead of John Havlicek.

San Antonio is a 9.5-point favorite for tonight’s game. The Spurs have won eight of the last ten against the Lakers and covered in six.
