The UCS Trojans, will see the last game of their quarterback Matt Barkley in 2012 edition of the Sun Bowl as they face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, on Monday December 31st at 2 PM ET.
The Trojans had and ups and down season and never really found their peak. Their offense was good, but their defense was not good build; plus, they had to settle with a Sun Bowl spot after they were one of the favorites to get to the BCS Championship game, in the begging of the season.
“Especially after two years of sitting at home and not being able to go to a bowl game, we’re excited,” coach Lane Kiffin said. “We’re excited about a very good bowl and a great matchup.”
“In a five-week span, we went 1-4 …, and it was obviously a very depressing way to finish the season,” Kiffin said.
“It didn’t turn out the way I planned,” Barkley said of his decision to return to school. “But I think over these last four years, and especially this year, I’ve learned so much. (I’ve) grown, matured a lot since last year I really think, and that will prepare me for the next level and for later in life. I don’t regret it one bit.”
The Yellow Jackets will love to end with USC dominance and favoritism on Monday, but they now is not an easy challenge.
“When we found out that we were coming back to the Sun Bowl, and we were going to be playing the Trojans of Southern Cal, I don’t know what I did to become so lucky to get the University of Georgia, Florida State and Southern Cal all in a row,” Georgia Tech Coach Paul Johnson said.
The Trojans are 7.5 favorites in the Sun Bowl odds.
