A Big East solid match will be played this Saturday as the Syracuse Orange takes on the Villanova Wildcats, at The Pavilion at 11 AM ET.
Syracuse ranks third in the nation as they have an 18-1 record, with their only loss coming against Temple, back on December 22th. The Orange beat Cincinnati 57-55 on Monday.
“We didn’t want to lose,” said Michael Carter-Williams, who scored 3-pointer with 80 seconds left. “None of us like losing. We wanted to do anything to win that game. We picked up our intensity and our energy. We should have found that in the first half.”
“Louisville was a tough, gritty game. We’re banged-up and sore,” Carter-Williams said. “To come back one day later and beat Cincinnati is a great feeling. We were a little fatigued. Now we get some rest.”
Nova, on the other hand, beat Louisville on Tuesday, snapping a three game losing streak that included a defeat against Syracuse. “We know how good they are,” coach Jay Wright said of Louisville. “We still think that team can win a national championship.”
In the last matchup between Syracuse and Villanova, the Orange was 14 points favorite, but the result ended with a 72-61 scoreboard, and the Wildcats covered the spread.
“I thought of all our wins the last couple of years, this was the grittiest, toughest performance I think we’ve had,” Boeheim said. “Everybody just dug in there defensively. We just kept battling away.”
