NCAAF Week 14 Betting – (5) TCU at Texas (Thanksgiving)

(5) TCU Horned Frogs (-6.5, 56.5 o/u) at Texas Longhorns

Sitting one spot outside the College Football Playoffs at the moment, the No. 5 TCU Horned Frogs need a good win over the Texas Longhorns tomorrow coupled with a loss among the top-four teams in order to reach the promised land. Their battle with Texas kicks-off at 7:30 p.m. Eastern at Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.

TCU is 9-1 this season. Their only loss was a 61-58 shootout with Baylor, in which TCU gave up a double-digit fourth-quarter lead. They have rebounded well, though, posting five straight wins, including an impressive 41-20 victory against then-No. 7 Kansas State, where they more than covered as six-point favorites. The Frogs were off last weekend and, without a Big 12 Championship game, they only have two regular season games left to impress the committee.

“Our job is to keep our nose down and to finish the journey. That’s what we’re trying to get accomplished,” TCU coach Gary Patterson said.

The Horned Frogs are led by QB Trevone Boykin. The junior signal-caller has passed for 3,021 yards on the season (17th in the FBS) with 24 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He will be facing a Texas team that is 14th in the nation against the pass, though, surrendering just 182 yards per game. That could spell problems for the Horned Frogs, who may be without star running back B.J. Catalon again.

Texas is 6-5 this season with a 5-3 record inside the Big 12. After a sluggish start to the year, Texas has won its last three, including impressive victories over West Virginia and Oklahoma State.

“This is the best football we’ve played in November since I’ve been here,” said Longhorns’ John Harris, a fifth-year senior wide receiver. “[The loss to Kansas State on October 25] was a turning point for this team. We made up our minds we had to be better.”

TCU is a 6.5-point favorite for tomorrow’s holiday tilt, and the game total is at 56.5 points. Texas is 14-7 SU in its last 21 home games and TCU is 17-8 SU in its last 25 games on the road. With the Horned Frogs in dire need of an impressive victory, look for TCU to prevail in Austin.
