bills_panthersAfter losing the Hall Of Fame Game against NY Giants, the Buffalo Bills will try to win their first preseason game in 2014 when they visit the Carolina Panthers, this Friday at 7:30 PM ET, at Bank of America Stadium.

The Bills lost 13-18 against the G-Men and struggled offensively, especially QB EJ Manuel, who overthrew some of his receivers.

“When you’re going to play a game, the goal is to win the game,” Bill coach Doug Marrone said. “There’s other things that are coming into play with the schematics, and we’re not game planning, but we have enough in to win. And at the end of the day, making sure we can figure out and come to a conclusion who the best players are to make this roster.”

Buffalo expects WR Robert Wood to earn a spot in the starting lineup, now that Stevie Johnson left the team to play for the 49ers.

“We know Robert can play three positions for us,” Marrone told reporters, according to audio from WHAM 1180 in Rochester. “We’re just trying to figure out what’s the best combination that we have out there.

The Panthers are 6-6 in the preseason under coach Ron Rivera; they still don’t know if QB Cam Newton will see the field at some point.

“I’m not going to say yes and all of a sudden he’s not going to. And I’m not going to say no and all of a sudden he’s going to,” Rivera said. “I’ve been told, in talking with the trainers, that we can’t make a decision right now.”

The NFL preseason spread has the Panthers -2-point favorites.
