Canada vs. Great Britain: Who Has the Edge in 2026 Men’s Olympic Curling

  • What: The 2026 Men’s Winter Olympic Curling Championship
  • When: February 2nd – February 11th 2026
  • Where: Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy

The 2026 Men’s Olympic Curling Championship is in early February at Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. It promises intense competition among the world’s top teams for Olympic gold.

While many leading sportsbooks have not yet released comprehensive odds for the tournament, a few sites have already posted early lines, giving bettors a chance to find value before the market fully develops.

Interestingly, the women’s tournament also draws betting action, and Canadian women have emerged as strong favorites, priced between -200 and -225.

To maximize value, compare odds across several top-rated sportsbooks before wagering.

Unlike previous Olympic cycles, the Canadian men enter 2026 without the heavy-favorite status they’ve traditionally carried.

This represents a somewhat enviable position—the pressure that typically accompanies being the prohibitive favorite has shifted elsewhere, potentially allowing Team Canada to play with more freedom.

The 13-nation Olympic field is still being finalized, although most of the top-contending nations have already secured their spots. The remaining qualification events will determine the final participants before the February competition begins.

Great Britain

Team Mouat enters as the favorites, backed by 10 Grand Slam titles. Since winning their silver medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, they have gone on to win the world titles in 2023 and 2025 and the European championships in 2022 and 2023.

Skip Bruce Mouat, now a two-time World Champion, has led his team to new heights. The experienced lineup returns with a clear goal: to turn recent silver into gold.

Team Mouat’s consistent dominance, exemplified by their recent semifinal win over Canada, reaffirms their status as the team to beat on the world stage. Team Mouat’s combination of precision shot-making, strategic brilliance, and clutch performance under pressure makes them the clear favorites to bet on heading into Milano Cortina.

Their only Olympic disappointment came at Beijing 2022 when they settled for silver, a result that has fueled their determination to capture gold on Italian ice.

With Mouat at the height of his powers and the team firing on all cylinders, Great Britain represents the most substantial challenge to Canada’s Olympic curling dynasty.

I would bet on Great Britain winning gold at this price.

Canada

Canada secured its spot after Team Jacobs won bronze at the 2025 World Men’s Curling Championship. Team Canada is playing in the semis, ensuring its place among elite competitors.

Canada has won at least one curling medal at each Olympic Winter Games since the sport’s return in 1998, totaling 12 medals and six golds—more than any other nation. The Canadian men captured three consecutive gold medals from 2006 to 2014 at the Turin, Vancouver, and Sochi Winter Olympics in curling.

The specific team representing Canada will be determined at the 2025 Canadian Curling Trials, held in Halifax from November 22 to 30.

Team Jacobs—skip Brad Jacobs, vice-skip Marc Kennedy, second Brett Gallant, and lead Ben Hebert—won the 2025 Brier championship. After victory at the 2025 Brier, Team Jacobs is now Team Canada, making them strong contenders for the Olympic berth.

Sweden’s Niklas Edin, the reigning Olympic champion from Beijing 2022 and seven-time world champion, will defend his title in Olympic Curling. Great Britain’s Team Mouat won the 2025 World Men’s Curling Championship and defeated Canada 7-4 in the semifinals.

Team Jacobs won bronze at the men’s curling worlds, and Grondin hoists the Crystal Globe, establishing themselves as formidable opponents.

I would have to pass on Canada at this price.

Sweden

Has Sweden faded from the spotlight in Men’s Olympic Curling?

Once favorites at the end of 2024, they’ve now become an afterthought heading into Italy—almost unthinkable given their pedigree.

This slip in status is surprising when considering Sweden’s dominance: skip Niklas Edin holds seven world championship titles and is the only curler to win three Olympic medals—gold in 2022, silver in 2018, and bronze in 2014. He’s also a seven-time European champion.

Despite this impressive track record, Sweden finished fourth at the 2025 World Championships with an 8-4 record and was eliminated by Scotland 8-7, ending Edin’s quest for a record-extending eighth world title. With Edin’s team of third Oskar Eriksson, second Rasmus Wranå, and lead Christoffer Sundgren, their form has slipped significantly.

Nonetheless, after winning gold at Beijing 2022, Team Edin announced they would stay together through 2026 to defend their Olympic title. They could become the first rink to successfully defend Olympic gold. Edin acknowledged feeling liberated since winning gold: “We’ve done it all, so there is no pressure.”

Looking ahead to Italy, Edin’s fifth Olympic appearance and his team’s championship experience make Sweden a dangerous dark horse—capable of surprising the field in Italy.

This one at +2200 is absolutely worth a sprinkle.
