Barcelona leads the pack
Barcelona finished the Group Phase of the 2021-22 EHF Season as the No. 2 team in Group B. Barcelona had a record of 9-2-3. That finish put them behind first place Lomza Vibe Kielce, who finished at 10-0-4.
Barcelona has a record 10 EHF Champions League Trophies to its name. With that history, it’s no surprise the club is the favorite to win the 11th title at the end of the 2022 campaign.
The player to watch for Barcelona is their goalkeeper captain, Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas. Pérez de Vargas is coming off helping Spain to a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Kiel is in the mix
THW Kiel wrapped up the Group Phase of the 2021-22 EHF Season with a 10-1-3 record. That finish was good enough for the No. 2 spot in Group A.
The winners of the 2020 EHF Champions League title, Kiel is one of the historic powers of the EHF with four EHF titles. The team’s last title win came in 1983.
THW Kiel is led by center back Domagoj Duvnjak who is one of the most decorated players in the sport and a former IHF World Player of the Year.
Kielce looks for a second title
Lomza Vive Kielce finished in first place in Group B during the 2021-22 EHF Season with a record of 10-0-4. The team has one previous championship win to its name. That title was won in 2016.
The issue facing Kielce is that they are matched up against Montpellier HB in the upcoming EHF Champions League quarterfinals. Montpellier was responsible for handing the Kielce squad two of their four losses this season.
Our Pick
We’re leaning toward a repeat for the Barcelona club in 2021/22.
