Gerwyn Price
Last year’s runner-up, Gerwyn Price, is one of the co-favorites to win the 2022 World Grand Prix, and rightfully so. Price is currently the No. 1 ranked player in the world. He is coming off his second World Series of Darts Finals championship earlier this month with a win over Dirk van Duijvenbode in the final round of that tournament.
The 37-year-old Price is No. 16 on the ProTour Order of Merit with £69,250in winnings in the past 12 months. However, he is the No. 1 player in winnings over the past 24 months with a total of £1,256,250.
Michael van Gerwen
The 33-year-old Michael van Gerwen is a three-time PDC World Champion, holding the title in 2014, 2017 and 2019. He was the world’s No. 1 ranked player from 2014 through 2021. Van Gerwen’s current ranking is No. 3 in the world, behind Price and the No. 2 ranked Peter Wright.
Van Gerwen made it to the quarter-finals of the recent World Series of Darts Finals. Clayton eliminated him in that round. Danny Noppert upset Van Gerwen in the first round of last year’s World Grand Prix.
Van Gerwen is the No. 2 player on the ProTour Order of Merit, having earned £149,500 over the past 12 months. As for the PDC Order of Merit, Van Gerwen has picked up £810,250, which puts him in the No. 3 spot.
Peter Wright
Like Van Gerwen, Peter Wright had a rough go of things during the 2021 World Grand Prix. The No. 2 ranked player in the world at the time, Wright fell to Rob Cross in the first round.
The 52-year-old Wright remains the No. 2 ranked player in the world. In January, Wright took home £500,000 when he claimed his second PDC World Darts Championship. Wright made it to the second round of the recent World Series of Darts. Michael Smith eliminated him in that tourney.
Wright briefly held the No. 1 spot in the world earlier this year. When he claimed that ranking, he was 51. With that, Wright became the oldest player to achieve that ranking.
Wright’s winnings over the past 24 months equal £1,228,000. As for the ProTour Order of Merit, Wright is No. 8 with £97,750 in prize money.
