Neil Robertson
Neil Robertson has played well during the 2022-23 snooker season, but the No. 3 ranked player in the world has yet to pick up a win this year. Robertson has made it to the semi-final round in four of the seven events he has played this year, but he has yet to make it to the finals. Robertson is coming off a first-round elimination in The Masters, where he was the No. 1 seed. He lost to Shaun Murphy, who was eliminated in the next round.
With how he has played this year, I think it’s not a matter of whether Robertson will pick up a win but when.
Robertson has a win at the 2020 World Grand Prix.
Ronnie O’Sullivan
The No. 1 snooker player in the world, Ronnie O’Sullivan, is playing well in non-ranking events in 2022-23. While the 47-year-old has not made it past the quarter-finals in a ranking tournament this season, O’Sullivan is two-for-three when it comes to winning non-ranking events. O’Sullivan has wins at the Hong Kong Masters and Champion of Champions. He is coming off a loss to Mark Williams in the quarter-final round of the Masters.
Judd Trump
Fresh off his win at the 2023 Masters on Sunday, January 15 over Mark Williams, Judd Trump is at the No. 4 spot in the World Snooker Tour rankings. The win is the first of the snooker season for Trump, following two victories last year and two runner-up finishes.
Trump has won the World Grand Prix twice in his career, picking up victories in 2019 and 2021.
Mark Williams
Mark Williams came so very close to getting his first victory since winning the British Open in 2021. However, Williams, who is the No. 7 ranked player in the world, fell short at The Masters, losing to Judd Trump 10-8 in the finals. Williams, who has never moved past the second round of the World Grand Prix, defeated Ronnie O’Sullivan and Jack Lisowski on his way to his matchup against Trump in The Masters Finals.
Our pick
Looking at the brackets of the 2023 World Grand Prix, Judd Trump and Neil Robertson could possibly meet in the quarter-finals and that makes this pick a tough one. In addition, there’s a possibility of a rematch between Mark Williams and Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals of the other tournament bracket.
I’m going with the hot hand to win the 2023 World Grand Prix. To me, the best bet is to pick Judd Trump to win.
Pick: Judd Trump to win the 2023 Snooker World Grand Prix.
