Michael van Gerwen is the current hot hand with an impressive 6-1 championship victory during last week’s round of darts action. Meanwhile, Jonny Clayton is looking to take the top spot again after he won the tournament during Night Eight. In terms of seasonal standings for this current season, van Gerwen leads the pack with 22 points, followed by Clayton at 19 and finally Peter Wright in third place with 18.

First Matchup Spotlight

What to look for from: Peter Wright

Currently jostling for first place in the Premier League Darts competition, Wright currently sits three points behind the leader van Gerwen. In the last four installments of the Premier League Darts competition, Wright  has made it out of the initial rounds all four times, but has stalled out in the semi-finals. However, thanks to his solid track record, he has consistently maintained his spot on the leaderboard. Also, the last time these two matched up (Night Four), Wright was able to knock off Price 6-2 with a combined score of 101.06 to 94.89.

What to look for from: Gerwyn Price

The Iceman is having an okay season thus far, but needs a big push to jump into the top four of the standings. Currently sitting in the sixth spot in the leader standings, Price is four points away from catching James Wade and sliding into fourth place. While Wright has soared in the quarterfinals, Price has struggled to advance with him failing to do so in four of the last five Premier League Darts tournament nights. While he did win Night Three back in February, it would seem a hand injury is taking a toll on him.

Prediction: It would appear that Wright has the formula to advance out of the initial rounds and he should do the same in his battle against Price.

Second Matchup Spotlight

What to look for from: Gary Anderson

A two-time PDC World Champion, Anderson has struggled to maintain any kind of momentum this season but will be looking to turn things around on Night 10. Though Anderson was crowned as the Night Six winner, he has only made it past the quarterfinal round twice this season. After being forced to withdraw during Night Nine due to COVID-19, he will be looking for a bounce back at the AO.

What to look for from: James Wade

Wade on the other hand, is coming off two runner-up performances and is looking for his first victory of the season during Night Ten. One of the more consistent athletes this season, Wade has made it out of the initial round five times already this season. Wade was also able to outlast Anderson during Night Four of the season back in March, 6-4.

Prediction: Perhaps this contest might shake out another way, but look for Wade to keep the momentum going and for the Iceman to get freezed out.

Third Matchup Spotlight

What to look for from: Michael van Gerwen

Our final matchup spotlight for the purposes of this article, van Gerwen matches up with Clayton for a battle with a lot on the line. Coming off a victory during last week’s competition, the leaderboard front-runner is looking for his fourth win on the season. The winner of five previous Premier League Darts tournaments, van Gerwen is hitting his stride at just the right time.

What to look for from: Jonny Clayton

Looking to avenge his Night Seven loss to van Gerwen, 6-3, Clayton could gain a ton of momentum and perhaps the top spot in the standings if he can win Thursday. The Welsh professional player is coming off three straight appearances advancing past the initial round and even won the tournament on Night Eight. In fact, Clayton has only not advanced past the quarterfinals three times this season.

Prediction: This will be another close showdown, but look for van Gerwen to pull away once again when he squares off with Clayton.
