The 2022 Cazoo UK Snooker Championship kicked off on November 12. The event is down to eight players and wraps up on Saturday, November 20, at the York Barbican in York, England.
Last year, China’s Zhao Xintong won the tournament, defeating Luca Brecel. Zhao, who was the No. 1 seeded player in the 2022 version of the event, was eliminated in the Last 32 by Sam Craigie, who has made it to the final eight of the event. Brecel made it to the Last 16, where Tom Ford eliminated him.
The 2022 version of the Cazoo UK Snooker Championship saw a change in the rules. In previous years, all 128 players would begin the tournament in a flat draw. This year saw the top 16 players in the world get automatic seeds in the round of 32 players, where they faced the top 16 players from the initial pool of players.

Ronnie O’Sullivan
Days after wrapping up a win over Judd Trump in the 2022 Champion of Champions event, Ronnie O’Sullivan began competing in the 2022 UK Snooker Championship. O’Sullivan is a seven-time winner of this event. His most recent victory came in 2018. Since that win over Mark Allen, O’ Sullivan has not made it past the quart-final round. The legendary English Snooker player matches up against Ding Junhui in the quart-finals of the 2022 event.
O’Sullivan is cruising so far in the 2022 UK Snooker Championship. He defeated Matthew Stevens in the Last 32 by a score of 6-2 and then ran through Zhou Yuelong with a 6-0 shutout. O’Sullivan is the No. 1 ranked player on the World Snooker Tour, Junhui checks in at No. 38, which is 17 spots lower than Yuelong, who O’Sullivan defeated in the Last 32.
Mark Allen
The No. 9 ranked player in the world, Mark Allen is looking to win his first UK Snooker Championship. Allen has made it to the finals on two occasions. In 2011 he lost to Judd Trump, and in 2018 he fell to O’Sullivan. Allen made it as far as the semi-finals in 2019.
Allen is playing well in 2022. He made it to the finals of the British Open and won his second straight Northern Irish Open. In the recent Champion of Champions event, Allen lost to Trump in the quarter-finals.
With Trump out of the event, he fell to Shaun Murphy in the Last 16, Allen doesn’t have to worry about O’Sullivan unless both players make it to the finals. Allen is matched up against the surprising Sam Craigie in the quarter-finals. Craigie, through his play in this event, has moved up to No. 37 in the WST rankings.
Shaun Murphy
Shaun Murphy is the No. 13 player in the world, and he might have the most confidence of the remaining eight players in the 2022 UK Snooker Championship. Murphy, who hasn’t had a ranking tournament win since he won the 2020 Welsh Open, is coming off a 6-5 win over the No. 3 player in the world, Judd Trump, in the round of 16. The 40-year-old Murphy has struggled since that 2020 Welsh Open victory. This is only his third appearance in the quarter-final round of a qualifying tournament since that win. In his two previous quarter-final matchups, he was eliminated by Stephen Maguire and Ricky Walden. Murphy faces the No. 12 player in the world, Jack Lisowski, in the quarter-finals of the 2022 UK Snooker Championship.
