The 2023 edition of the Masters marks the 49th time the event takes place. The tournament, which is a non-ranking event and the second of three tournaments in the Snooker Triple Crown, features 16 of the top snooker players in the world. Last year, Neil Robertson took home first place and £250,000 of a total prize pool of £725,000. Robertson defeated Barry Hawkins in the final. Hawkins earned £100,000 for his runner-up finish.
Robertson, who hails from Australia, is the only player not from the UK to win Snooker’s Triple Crown. In his opening game of the 2023 Cazoo Masters, Robertson faces another Triple Crown winner in English player Shaun Murphy in event’s first game.

Neil Robertson
The defending Masters champion, Neil Robertson, has played well during the 2022-23 snooker season, but the No. 3 ranked player in the world has yet to pick up a win this year. Robertson has made it to the semifinal round in four of the six events he has played in this year, but he has yet to make it to the finals. Robertson is coming off a 6-4 loss to Mark Selby in the recent English Open.
With how he has played this year, I think it’s not a matter of whether Robertson will pick up a win but when.
Robertson has played in two non-ranking events this year. He was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Masters by Ronnie O’Sullivan and fell in the first round of the Champion of Champions to Fan Zhengyi.
Ronnie O’Sullivan
The No. 1 snooker player in the world, Ronnie O’Sullivan, is playing well in non-ranking events in 2022-23. While the 47-year-old has not made it past the quarter-finals in a ranking tournament this season, O’Sullivan is two-for-two when it comes to winning non-ranking events. O’Sullivan has wins at the Hong Kong Masters and Champion of Champions. He is coming off a loss to Martin Gold in the second round of the English Masters.
O’Sullivan has seven career wins the Masters. His most recent victory at the event came in 2017. Neil Robertson eliminated O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals at the 2022 Masters.
Judd Trump
Judd Trump has slipped to the No. 4 spot in the World Snooker Tour rankings. The 33-year-old has not won an event this year after finishing in the top spot twice last year. Despite his struggles, Trump made the finals in one of the two non-ranking events this year. Ronnie O’Sullivan defeated him at the Champion of Champions event.
Trump was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the English Open in December, he lost to Luca Brecel at that event.
Trump has one win at the Masters, finishing in the top spot in 2019. Barry Hawkins knocked him out in the semi-finals of last year’s Masters.
Our pick
Under normal circumstances, it’s hard to pick against Ronnie O’Sullivan. With the way he has played in non-ranking events this year, winning both the Hong Kong Masters and the Champion of Champions, the best bet to win the 2023 Cazoo Masters it to pick Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Pick: Ronnie O’Sullivan to win the 2023 Masters.
