Ronnie O’Sullivan
The number one ranked snooker player in the world, Ronnie O’Sullivan is playing well in non-ranking events in 2022-23. While the 47-year-old has yet to make it past the quarter-finals in a ranking tournament this season, O’Sullivan is two-for-three when it comes to winning non-ranking events he has played in this season. O’Sullivan has wins at the Hong Kong Masters and Champion of Champions. O’Sullivan fell in the quarter-finals of The Masters.
O’Sullivan has not played in the Six Red World Championship during his long and storied career.
Judd Trump
Judd Trump is the No. 5 ranked snooker player in the world. The 33-year-old does not have a ranking tournament win for the 2022-23 WST season. However, he has appeared in the finals of one event, losing the 2023 World Grand Prix to Mark Allen by a score of 10-9. Trump won the 2023 Masters and also placed as a runner-up in the Champion of Champions event. He lost to Ronnie O’Sullivan in that event.
Trump has fared much better in non-ranking events this season. He has made the finals in three of the four non-ranking events he has played in and won one, The Masters. Trump has played in the Six Red World Championship five times, making the semi-finals on two occasions.
John Higgins
A finalist in the 2019 Six Red World Championship, John Higgins enters the 2023 version of the snooker tournament as the No. 11 ranked player in the world. Unfortunately, Higgins has not had a great 2022-23 snooker season when it comes to rankings tournaments. He has yet to make it past the third round in any event this year and only went that far twice.
However, like O’Sullivan and Trump, Higgins has done fairly well in non-ranking tournaments this season, making the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Masters and winning the Championship League. His win in that event gave Higgins back-to-back victories in that tournament and a total of four Championship League triumphs.
Outside of his appearance in the 2019 finals of the Six Red World Championship, Higgins’ best finish in this event has been two quarter-finals eliminations.
Best bet to win the 2023 Six Red World Championship
With how they have played in non-ranking events this season, the 2023 Six Red World Championship event could come down to two of the best players in the world. Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump. Looking at his overall play this year, my pick is for Judd Trump to win the 2023 Six Red World Championship title.
Pick: Judd Trump to win the 2023 Six Red World Championship.
