- What: 2026 World Men’s Curling Championship
- Date: Friday, March 27th-April 4th, 2026
- Location: Weber County Ice Sheet Arena, Ogden, Utah, USA
The 67th World Men’s Curling Championship runs March 27 through April 4 in Ogden, Utah. The Weber County Ice Sheet hosted curling at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. The venue seats over 2,300 fans and is located 35 miles north of Salt Lake City. Thirteen nations will compete in a round-robin format, with the top six advancing to a playoff bracket.
Poland is making its first-ever appearance at the World Men’s Championship. Joining them will be: Canada, Sweden, Scotland, Switzerland, Norway, Italy, the United States, China, Japan, Korea, Germany, and Czechia.
Scotland enters as the defending champion after winning gold in Moose Jaw in 2025. Sweden’s Niklas Edin remains a perennial threat with multiple world titles. Canada’s Brad Jacobs leads one of the most experienced rosters in the field. Switzerland’s Team Schwaller is known for consistency, rarely having an off day. These four teams? They’ll definitely be in the mix come medal time.
This event follows closely on the heels of the Milan Cortina Olympics. A lot of these guys are coming off the Olympics still feeling pretty good about their game. Italy’s Joël Retornaz is a three-time bronze medalist worth watching. China’s Team Xu has been trending upward and could surprise. Let’s not forget the young American squad, led by Daniel Casper. Playing at home might be just what they need to sneak into the playoffs.

Scotland
Can Scotland repeat? Skip Bruce Mouat has won two world championship titles, in 2023 and 2025. They won gold over Switzerland 5-4 in Moose Jaw last year. Mouat returns to Ogden as the defending champion and world number one.
His longtime rink of Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie, and Hammy McMillan remains intact. The group has also captured four European titles and twelve Grand Slam crowns. That level of consistency is unmatched in the men’s game right now.
Mouat arrives in Ogden fresh off an Olympic silver medal at Milano Cortina. Canada’s Brad Jacobs defeated his rink 9-6 in the Olympic gold medal match. That painful loss could serve as powerful fuel for this tournament. Mouat was emotional afterward but vowed he is not done chasing titles.

His form has been elite all year, he won the first three Grand Slam events of the fall season. Winning back-to-back world titles might be the only thing to help him forget that silver medal finish at the Olympics.
I’d bet on Scotland to add another world title here at +150.
Canada
Skip Matt Dunstone earned his first Brier title this month in St. John’s. The 30-year-old, nicknamed “the Sheriff,” defeated Kevin Koe 6-3 in the final. Dunstone shot a game-high 94 percent in the championship match. He is joined by vice skip Colton Lott, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden.
This group carries a serious pedigree and emotional motivation. EJ Harnden has announced this will be his final competitive curling season. He previously won Olympic gold and multiple Briers with Brad Jacobs and Brad Gushue. Veteran Geoff Walker will serve as the team’s alternate in Ogden. Walker won an Olympic bronze and six Brier titles during his career.

Dunstone also won the Grand Slam Masters earlier this season. He hit a rough patch after falling to Jacobs at the Olympic Trials. However, he bounced back with dominant play at the Brier. Canada holds a record 36 world titles and has medaled in three straight years. Dunstone now has a golden chance to add to that legacy.
I like Canada’s odds at +220 as well; if it’s not Scotland, they will most likely win the gold here.
Italy
Skip Joël Retornaz is a four-time Olympian who first represented Italy in 2006. Now 42, the veteran remains one of the sport’s craftiest shot makers. His lineup includes Amos Mosaner at third, Sebastiano Arman, and Mattia Giovanella.
Retornaz has won three bronze medals at the World Men’s Championship. He knows how to compete on the biggest stages. At the Milano Cortina Olympics, Italy finished with a competitive round robin record. A crowd-fueled triple score in the sixth end against the U.S. showcased their firepower.

Italy’s ceiling is high when Retornaz is dialed in. His precision on draws and double takeouts can dismantle any opponent. The trick is gonna be staying sharp for all 12 games across the 12-round robin. If they find that rhythm, they’ve definitely got a shot at making the playoffs.
This feels priced correctly at +600. I think Italy would be thrilled with a top-3 finish here, so I’m passing on them to win outright.

USA
John Shuster won his 11th national title and eighth as a skip in Charlotte. He is joined by third Chris Plys, second Colin Hufman, and lead Matt Hamilton. Schuster led Team USA to Olympic gold in 2018 in PyeongChang. His experience on the world stage is virtually unmatched among American curlers.
Shuster went 7-0 in round robin play at nationals before a tough playoff run. He sealed the final with a clutch last rock shot in an extra end. That kind of composure under pressure translates well to world championship play.
We might just have to make John Shuster our entire highlight tape this week. pic.twitter.com/hyrUNQTBOr

Plys and Hufman are reportedly expected to retire after this season. That adds emotional weight to this final run together in Ogden. Playing on home soil in Utah gives the Americans a rare energy boost. They are unlikely gold medal contenders but could push for a playoff spot.
This is nearly identical to the situation in Italy. I don’t think the Americans can win, but they can make it close as they chase a medal finish. I’d have to pass on them here.
