- Location: Adelaide Street Circuit in Adelaide, South Australia
- How to Watch: SuperView and YouTube
The thirteenth and final event of the 2022 Supercars season takes place this weekend in Adelaide, South Australia. Even though Shane van Gisbergen wrapped up the 2022 Supercars title during the Gold Coast 500 in October, there are still plenty of reasons to watch the VALO Adelaide 500 event.
One of the reasons to keep an eye on the 2022 Adelaide 500 is that the race has not been held since 2020. The more compelling reason to watch the races is that most of the roads where the cars will race have been resurfaced since the last event was held on the Adelaide Street Circuit. That fact has many expecting record-setting speed and times for this year’s event.
The 2022 Adelaide 500 also marks the final race for the Gen2 Supercars. When the 2023 Supercars season begins in March with the Newcastle 500 it will do so with the all-new Gen3 cars.

Shane Van Gisbergen
The 33-year-old Shane van Gisbergen locked up back-to-back Supercars Drivers’ Championship titles with his win at the Gold Coast 500 in October. With that victory, the New Zealand-born driver claimed his third Supercars title. He first won in 2016. Van Gisbergen dominated this season. With his wins in both Gold Coast races, Van Gisbergen has 21 wins on the 2022 Supercars season.
There is an excellent reason Van Gisbergen is favored here. No active driver has more wins in Adelaide than Van Gisbergen, who also has the second-highest number of pole starts in the race with eight. If Van Gisbergen has a good performance in Adelaide, he could record the biggest winning margin in Supercars’ history.
Nick Percat
Nick Percat is facing some long odds to win in Adelaide, but he deserves some consideration when as a potential pick to claim victory. The 34-year-old hails from Adelaide and he scored his first Supercars win in this race in 2016. The victory was his first in 82 events. Percat doesn’t have a win this year and he failed to finish in the Gold Coast race, but he’ll have the crowd behind him in Adelaide and could surprise racing fans with his best performance in the 2022 Supercars season.
Cameron Waters
While Cameron Waters can’t catch Shane van Gisbergen in the points scoring for the 2022 Supercars season, the 28-year-old Australian can close the distance between himself and Van Gisbergen with a strong finish in Adelaide. Waters is second in the standings for the 2022 season and has three first-place finishes to his name. He is coming off fifth and seventh-place finishes in the Gold Coast races.
With a poor finish, Waters could lose his second place standing in Adelaide. Look for him to be motivated not to let that happen, especially since his former teammate Chaz Mostert is on his heels in the points race.
Our pick
With the way he has dominated the 2022 Supercars season, it’s very hard to pick anyone but Shane van Gisbergen to win in Adelaide. He has been too consistent to go against him.
Pick: Shane van Gisbergen to win Race 33 of the Supercars Adelaide 500.
