He defeated John Higgins of Scotland 10-8 in the 2021 final, which took place in January 2021. The win was Bingtao’s first Triple Crown event title. With the victory, Bingtao became the first Masters debutant to win the title since Mark Selby did so in 2008. Bingtao is the second Chinese player to win the event. Ding Junhui won the title in 2011.

A Possible Rematch
Bingtao had a nice run in 2021. The 20-year-old entered the Masters as the No. 12 seed (of 16 players). In his run to the final he defeated Neil Robertson (No. 4), Stephen Maguire (No. 9) and Stuart Bingham (No. 1) before topping Higgins in the final. Bingtao was one of four players to have four or more century breaks during play. Even though he topped four higher seeded players on his way to the title in 2021, oddsmakers have Bingtao in the middle of the pack for a repeat performance in 2022. He is listed at +2000 via BetUs.
Oddsmakers are giving Higgins a better chance than Bingtao to repeat his final performance and come out with a victory. According to SportsBetting, Higgins is +1200 to win the 2022 Masters. Higgins’ big win in 2021 was defeating Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals. The 46-year-old Scot topped O’Sullivan, who was the No. 2 seed 6-3 in the best of 11 frames.
Other Contenders:
Mark Selby, who is the No. 1 ranked snooker player in the world, is +550 to win the Masters title. The 38-year-old English player is a three-time winner of the Masters, and has captured nine Triple Crown titles. The only players with more Triple Crown titles are Ronnie Sullivan, Stephen Hendry and Steve Davis.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, who turned pro at 16 in 1992 is still the youngest player to ever win the Masters, which he did at 19 in 1995. He has won the title a record seven times. His most recent Masters win came in 2016-17 O’Sullivan, who is the highest earning snooker player of all-time, is the No. 3 ranked player in the world and +450 to win the 2022 Masters.
Judd Trump is the favorite to win the Masters. BetUS has him listed at +275. Trump did not play in the 2021 version of the Masters after he tested positive for COVID-19. Trump is the No. 2 ranked player in the world. A Triple Crown winner, in 2018-19 he became the first player to win over £1 million in prize money in a single season. Trump captured six ranking events wins the following season, which set a record. The 32-year-old has one Masters title on his record. That win came in 2018-19.
