Snooker: Odds to win Champion of Champions 2021

The 2021 Champion of Champions tournament is slated to start later this month. Pitting the best professional snooker players in the world against each other, MTS breaks down who the favorites are and who we think will take home the title. Defending champion, Mark Allen, was due to take part in the tournament, however he had to withdraw due to personal reasons.

With a new champion already guaranteed, we take a closer look at what makes each favorite stand out and who will be crowned as champion later this month.

Judd Trump (+200)

Regarded as one of snooker’s most talented players, Judd Trump is looking to take home his first ever Champion of Champions title in 2021. Currently ranked as the No. 2 player in the world, Trump has compiled 22 ranking tournament wins thus far and was crowned as the World Champion in 2019. The 32-year old has won two tournaments in 2021, the German Masters (his second) and the Gibraltar Open (also his second). Though 2021 has been somewhat of a down year from his hellacious 2020 season where he won six titles (including the World Grand Prix), the “Juddernaut” has had the answer to anything his opponents have thrown at him.

Neil Roberston (+550)

Robertson took home the Champion of Champions title back in 2015, and most recently in 2019. Roberston is known as a prolific break-builder, and the Australian has compiled more than 750 century breaks in professional competition.  Robertson has had a solid 2021 thus far, with wins in the Tour Championship and the English Open. He also won the 2020 World Grand Prix and his third UK Championship last year. However, he has had a difficult time when matching up with Trump in the finals as he is 1-4 all-time when facing off against his rival. If he is able to defeat Trump, then he could very well be on his way to his third Champion of Champions title.

Ronnie O’Sullivan (+550)

A three-time winner of this event (2013, 2014 and 2018), O’ Sullivan enters the tournament looking to make even more history even though he is no stranger to being first on the podium. Recognized as one of the greatest snooker players of all time, O’Sullivan is a six-time world champion, and a record seven-time Masters champion. Perhaps the best player ever, O’Sullivan is a true master of his craft which has allowed him to be ranked as the world number one player on numerous occasions. With three runner-up finishes in 2021, the 45-year old will be angling for his first title on the year. Indeed, O’Sullivan can truly never be counted out and will threaten for the title if he is on his game.

Mark Selby (+600)

The reigning World Snooker Champion, Mark Selby enters the 2021 Champion of Champions tournament looking to take home his first ever title at the event. Known as the “Jester from Leicester,” Selby has won a total of 20 ranking titles, which is good for seventh all-time on the list of ranking tournament winners. A four-time world champion overall, Selby is coming off a solid two-year span where he won three different titles, including a championship win over O’Sullivan in the 2020 Scottish Open. However, he has never won against Robertson (0-2) or Trump (0-1) in the finals of a ranking tournament. Could this be the competition to change all of that?

Prediction: A very talented and diverse field, it is difficult to pick who will take home the Champion of Champions title this year. However, as the old saying goes, “a hungry dog runs faster” so look for Trump to take home his first title at the event. Given Trump’s recent track record (he was voted the World Snooker Tour’s Player of the Year for three consecutive years from 2019 to 2021 and was inducted into the Snooker Hall of Fame in 2021), Trump is hyper-focused on taking home the crown later this month.
