Raman vs. Cole | Cole | -139 | -139 | -139 |
Littler vs. Veenstra | Veenstra | -108 | -108 | -108 |
First Match Spotlight: Brian Raman (1) (Odds: +109) vs. Jarred Cole (Q) (Odds: -139)
What to look for from Brian Raman
Raman is the current No. 1 seed in the tournament; Raman cruised past his opponent Johnny Haines in the second round. The Belgian darts player was able to upend Haines, 3-2, in the second round and won by a final tally of 92.61 to 87.43. One of the younger players on the circuit, in 2021, Raman became the second Belgian World Darts Federation world number one. The 25-year old won the 2019 Denmark Masters and has held his own on the circuit with this tournament potentially being his next breakthrough moment.
What to look for from Jarred Cole
Cole has blazed through his opponents in this tournament so this third-round matchup with Raman will be a good one. In his first-round set, Cole swept Martin Adams, 2-0, and won by a final score of 92.69 to 81.97. After that, the 21-year old knocked off Anthony Allen in another straight-set victory (3-0) with a final tally of 84.16 to 76.10. A darts player since 2015, the Englishman has had a strong career thus far since making his PDC debut back in 2016. The 2021 Mad World Champion Belt holder, Cole is riding an impressive streak heading into the third round.
Prediction: One of the more evenly-matched battles in the third round; look for Cole to continue his hot streak and pull away from Raman in this battle.
Second Match Spotlight: Luke Littler (8) (Odds: -122) vs. Richard Veenstra (9) (Odds: -108)
What to look for from: Luke Littler
After receiving a first-round bye to start the tournament, Littler won a back-and-forth match with Ben Hazel in the second round of the tournament. A 15-year old social media sensation, Littler has already brought together a cult following on social media who were blown away by his performance at Lakeside per a report from the Daily Star. Littler has been averaging just over 91 at this tournament and locked up his first professional victory on the pro circuit with his win earlier this month.
What to look for from: Richard Veenstra
Veenstra is the No. 9 seed in the tournament and one of the oldest players in the field at 40 years of age. In what will be a matchup between competitors on the opposite ends of the age spectrum, Veenstra or “Flyers” certainly has the edge when it comes to experience. Previously, Flyers has won the Scottish Open (2018), WDF Europe Cup Singles (2016) and also the British Open (2018). In fact, in 2021 alone, he was victorious at the Italian Grand Masters and the PDC ET01 Associate Member Qualifier. For this year’s tournament, Veenstra has cruised with a clean 3-0 victory over Laszlo Kadar in the second round after a first-round bye.
Prediction: Perhaps the most interesting matchup of the third round, look for experience to win out here as Veenstra will be able to hold off the charging Littler.
