Carissa Moore

Hawaii’s Carissa Moore claimed her fifth world championship last year, months after she took home a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games in the shortboard competition. She had a fantastic 2021 on her way to the title, making the semifinals or better in every event she participated in. Moore does not have a win in 2022, but she has two runner-up places, one third, and two ninth-place finishes. Moore is currently the No. 2 ranked woman in the WSL with 24,295 points.

Tyler Wright

Australia’s Tyler Wright is a two-time world champion. She won her titles back-to-back years in 2016 and 2017. A pro since 2011, Wright has had her ups and downs over the years, but after missing a full year due to illness in 2018, she has seemed more focused on her surfing.

Wright is currently in the No. 3 spot in the 2022 WSL women’s rankings with 23,440 points. She has one first-place finish in 2022, winning the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach. She also has one third-place, one-fifth place, and two ninth-place finishes this year.

Brisa Hennessy

Brisa Hennessy, who hails from Costa Rica, is the No. 1 ranked woman on the 2022 WSL Women’s Championship Tour. Hennessy opened the year with a fifth-place finish at the Billabong Pro Pipeline and then followed that with a win at the Hurley Pro Sunset Beach. Since then, she has a ninth, a third, and a fifth-place finish. Her fifth at the Margaret River Pro put her at the top of the rankings with 25,575 points.

Hennessy qualified for the WSL Championship Tour in 2018, but she has yet to claim her first world title. At 22, it seems as if it is just a matter of time before she makes the jump to world champ.
