venus_williamsAfter suffering to advance in the first round, veteran Venus Williams takes on Timea Bacsinszky in the second round of the WTA 2014 US Open, where the North American is the favorite in the tennis betting odds.

Venus is coming off a 2-6, 6-3, and 6-3 over 43 year old veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm, who fought hard to upset the oldest of the Williams.

“Definitely I was younger today,” Williams said with a smile. “But when you step out on the court, I don’t think anybody thinks about age. Because if you’re out on this tour it means you deserve to be here. You’ve got the skill. It must means you know how to play. So at that point she has the number, as they say.”

“I’m going to stay as long as I’m playing well and as long as there is an opportunity, as long as I want to be here,” Williams said.

Venus Willams leads the series 1-0 over Swiss Timea Bacsinszky; the only time they met was in the 2008 Beijing Olympics with a 6-2, -6-3 result.

“I was feeling better this summer, and I had some better results,” Williams added. “I never want to play three-setters. It’s not in the plan. Somehow I ended up in these matches. I would like to think the more I play, the better I’ll get at closing it out.”

Bacsinszky is listed +350 in the tennis money line and Williams -600; if you want to bet the match spread, Venus is -5 matches favorite.
