italy_andrea_pirloItaly and Uruguay will clash to look a spot in the 2014 World Cup round of 16 as they meet this Tuesday, June 24th at the Estádio das Dunas, in Natal, in group D.

Whoever loses is out of the competition, but a draw will give the advantage to Italy after both were defeated by Costa Rica, the only country with a ticket to the next round in this group.

Right now I don’t think we need to be negative, we need to think about recovering our energies because we have another game in a few days’ time, we play against Uruguay and whether we qualify depends on that,” coach Cesare Prandelli told reporters.

“It’s useless to blame the heat,” he added. “We have to regain not just the physical energy but the mental energy as well.”

After losing to Costa Rica, Uruguay beat England and managed to get a chance still to beat in the next round; Luis Suarez scored two goals against the English and changed the entire scenario.

“We’ve won after a difficult first game; we’ve been able to beat a European team for the first time in a long, long time. Many people said we wouldn’t be able to do so. I think it’s a special day because today is the birthday of Jose Artigas, our national hero, and we won against a team such as England,” said coach Oscar Tabarez.

“But the goals were scored by Luis Suarez, a player who was injured a month ago and had to undergo surgery. So for us this game was loaded with symbols,” Tabarez added.

The World Cup odds have Italy +162 and Uruguay +200 to win the game.
