AC Milan (+271) vs Chelsea (-109), Draw (+252)
AC Milan had a bad showing against Liverpool in their second game of the International Champions Cup, and they’ll hope for a better performance against another Premier League club, when they take on Chelsea, at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis (9:35 PM Eastern).
In Milan’s first meeting of the International Champions Cup, they were able to draw against Bayern Munich with a 3-3 score after 90 minutes; eventually winning on penalty kicks. However, against Liverpool, they looked weak on every line and fell to a 2-0 loss.
AC Milan is under a new coach in Vincenzo Montella; their fifth manager in the last three seasons. The team is looking for an idea on how to approach the season, but they haven’t shown anything to be excited about. With Montella, they have played a counterattacking style in the warmup to Serie A and so far, they have looked disorganized on defense and weak on offense.
Chelsea is in the midst of their own manager switch this summer: Antonio Conte took over about three weeks ago after finishing his deal with the Italian national team. An underappreciated coach who doesn’t get the credit he deserves, Conte should have Chelsea playing much tighter defensively this season after they surrendered 53 goals last year (the most the Blues had allowed in nearly 20 seasons).
So far in the ICC, Chelsea have beaten Liverpool (1-0) and lost to Champions League winners Real Madrid (3-0). They haven’t impressed just yet, but in this third game, we should see a better form Chelsea.
With AC Milan struggling on both sides of the ball, there isn’t anything else to do but to bet Chelsea to win this game. The last time they meet in the International Champions Cup, Chelsea won by a 2-0 score in 2013.
Pick: Chelsea (-109).
