We happen to agree with bookmakers. Look, if this was 2018 or 2019, we would hammer the yes bet. That version of Koepka was atop his game. During that stretch, he won five tournaments, three majors, had 10 top-2 finishes and 15 top-10s. He looked like a second coming of Woods at the time.
But that was then and this is now: Koepka can’t stay healthy. At all. His list of injuries during 2020 and 2021 include a torn tendon in his left wrist, a partially torn tendon in his left knee, and a torn labrum. Torn, torn, torn, which is why we’re so against betting Koepka yes here. Can he be trusted to finish a complete season in tip-top shape? We’d have to say no.
Don’t take the bait and wager no on Koepka’s major chances in 2022. It’s not a talent issue for the American golfer, it’s a durability issue, unfortunately. And we all know how those same types of issues plagued Woods, the legend that Koepka famously said he’ll catch in big-tournament titles.

How we were talking about Koepka in 2018-19 is similar to how we’ve talked about Morikawa the past two years. He’s the new phenom on the tour at only 24 years old. And if someone is going to challenge Woods’ or Jack Nicklaus’ amount of majors, Morikawa might be a bigger threat than Koepka. He already has two to his name — the 2020 US Open and the 2021 British Open. Now, will Morikawa win a third career major in 2022?
Our money says he will. Unlike Koepka, he’s trending in the right direction. Currently, Morikawa is the No. 2-ranked player in the world (behind Jon Rahm) and has a chance to become No. 1 at the ongoing Tournament of Champions. We just sense sky is truly the limit for him, especially given his age. We’re betting yes with confidence on this kid!

Alright, alright, if we want to talk about young phenoms bursting onto the major championship scene, you almost have to begin with Spieth. In 2015, while he was 21 and 22 years old, he won not one, but two major championships. As expected, the hype soon followed, but Spieth hasn’t quite been able to live up to it. He’s won only one major since then (the 2017 British Open). Early inclinations from bookies say that drought will continue for Spieth in his 2022 major pursuits.
Call us crazy, but we would have to disagree. During stretches of 2021, Koepka looked like his dominant 2015 self of old. He won the Valero Texas Open outright (ending a four-year tourney drought in the process) and almost won two different majors. At the Masters, he finished tied for third then took second overall at the British Open. We believe that streakiness carries into 2022 and Spieth adds a fourth career major win to his resume.
