The famed Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland is one of the sights of the looming tourney. The course is where we should start our preview of Dunhill Links because it’s an important detail. You might have noticed we said one sight in the first sentence of our paragraph. That’s because this event takes place across three links — with Kingsbarns and Carnoustie also getting action.
You may remember that the 150th Open Championship earlier this year was also contested at Old Course. That was back in June but playing conditions will be steeply different this time around — not only there, but on the other Scottish courses too. Gone is the warm sun that bathed players at the major. In are much harsher conditions and if weather reports are accurate, likely strong winds.
Cameron Smith was victorious at the Open, but will not be in the mix here (he’s infamously defected to LIV Golf). However, other top performers of the major will be. It’s the statement win of his three-year pro career that also includes five top-three finishes and 12 further top-10s.
