Best Bets To Win 2022 Masters
Given how long the betting odds to win across the board are, you’d have to be crazy to make a single bet on a golfer to win the 2022 Masters. This all-or-nothing approach isn’t smart business in a competition featuring almost 100 golfers, all of whom are very much “best of the best.” Please, do yourself a favor and wager on at least three different golfers. In fact, we think the three below are most worthy of being bets:
Rory McIlroy
On one hand, ALL eyes are on McIlroy this week. He’s a Masters win from achieving the elusive career Grand Slam (a feat only done by five players in history) and the world knows it. That pressure could cause him to crack like he did last weekend at the Valero Texas Open when he missed the cut entirely.
But we’re throwing a bet on him regardless. After all, McIlroy has six top-10s in the past eight years at Augusta. This course favors players who can “hit bombs”, which explains some of McIlroy’s success as of late. The other part? McIlroy is one of the best in the world. Period. Bet on him to win the green jacket once and for all.
Cameron Smith
Smith is hot. He’s red-hot actually. Winner of two of his last four events played, Smith has also gained 2.02 strokes per round over the last six months. So by choosing him here, we’re effectively “riding the hot hand.” And it’s not like he hasn’t played well at Augusta before. In five appearances, Smith has three top-10s to his name.
Brooks Koepka
We’ll be upfront with our last pick: Koepka is the ultimate boom-or-bust player in the field. Just look at his five previous finishes at Augusta — three top-10s and two cuts. But hey, the good slightly outweighs the bad over that half-decade so that’s why we’re taking him here.
Bets To Stay Away From At Masters 2022
Alright, sports betting is just as much about “not shooting yourself in the foot” as picking winners that’s why we’re telling you what bets to avoid at Masters 2022. The players listed underneath, you’ll want to stay, stay far away from their betting odds this weekend:
Tiger Woods
The five-time Masters Champ, Woods, himself said he is a “game-time” decision to play. He is in Georgia and practicing, which comes about 14 months after a life-threatening car accident. You can root for Woods’ comeback, but do so emotionally — not with betting money. A bet on Tiger is a bet wasted for the foreseeable future even beyond Augusta. There’s just too much unknown with Woods.
Hideki Matsuyama
The reigning Masters champion is typically a betting favorite in the following year — which would likely be the case in 2022 if Matsuyama wasn’t injured. Both back and neck injuries have kept Masuyama off the course since March, including last weekend when he dropped out of the Valero Texas Open in the second round. The 30-year-old had jumped off to a hot start this year until the injury struck too but alas, don’t think you’re getting value by taking Masuyama at +5000. He’s far, far from being 100 percent here.
John Rahm
The Masters will mark the first start since Rahm surrendered the number one spot in the Official World Golf Ranking. Searching for his first victory since the US Open last summer, Rahm desperately needs to shore up his short game if he wants to end the championship drought. He’s lost strokes around the green in six consecutive starts, plus lost strokes putting in the past four events. The unforgiving Augusta National Course isn’t a place where you can just fix putting issues, which is why we predict more pain on the way for Rahm when playing short.
