2021 PGA Championship Picks

  • BetOnline and BetUS have posted odds for the 2021 PGA Championship at the Ocean Course from May 18-21
  • Rory McIlroy (+1100) is the new betting favorite after winning the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday
  • Dustin Johnson is doubtful for the tournament with a knee injury

After breaking a 19-month tour slump with a victory at Quail Hollow, Rory McIlroy is now favored to win his third-career US PGA Championship at Kiawah Island next weekend.

Prior to capturing his third Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday, the 32-year-old had missed the cut at both The Players and The Masters and had his lowest world ranking (15th) since 2009, so it will be interesting to see if Rory truly has his career back on track.

Let’s look at the latest odds for the PGA Championship and provide some picks and predictions on who might come out on top. You can also refer to our golf betting guide if you need any tips or advice.

Rory killing it at Kiawah Island

The US PGA Championship is taking place at Kiawah Island for the first time since Rory McIlroy (+1100) romped to an eight-shot victory in 2012, so now that his game is back on track it makes sense that he’s the favorite to capture his fifth Major title and first since 2014.

His path atop the leaderboard may have also gotten easier with the news that Dustin Johnson (+1200) may miss the May 20th event. On Monday, the two-time Major winner withdrew from this week’s Byron Nelson Classic with a knee injury; especially worrying news considering Johnson had knee surgery in 2019 and endured complications with the injury last year.

Like your buddy who could never seal the deal in college, Jon Rahm (+1200) has finished in the top 10 in nine of his past 11 events, yet has no victories to show for it this year. Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth (+1600) has placed in the top 10 in five of his past seven events, including a third at the Masters in his last tournament, and the PGA is the only major he hasn’t won.

Brooks Koepka (+2000) won back-to-back PGA Championships in 2018 and 2019. He’s scheduled to make his first start since missing the cut at Augusta at this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson, as is 2021 Masters champion Hideki  Matsuyama (+2500).

Collin Morikawa (+2500) is a solid bet to defend his 2020 PGA title. The Ocean Course is considered the most difficult venue in the country, but the 24-year-old ranks fourth in greens in regulation (72.85%) and sixth in fairways hit (70.45%) this season. At the same time, fade Bryson DeChambeau (+1400), who doesn’t have the driving accuracy (146th on tour) to win at Kiawah Island.

Given the PGA Championship was last played at the Ocean Course in 2012, when most of today’s young guns were still in high school or college, this year’s tournament could be a wide-open affair. Keep an eye on Matt Kuchar (+12500), Harrison English (+6000) and Will Zalatoris (+4000), who in recent weeks all snuck in a round on the course.
