The best golfers in the world converge on Augusta National Golf Club this week for one of the most recognizable and prestigious events of the PGA Tour, The Masters. The event, one of the four major championships along with the PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship, has been staged since 1934. The prize pool for the 2025 Masters is $20 million, second only to the $25 million prize pool for The Players Championship. The winner of the 2025 Masters earns $3.6 million, with the runner-up banking $2.16 million. Of course, the winner of the Masters also takes home the vaunted green jacket. Last year, Scottie Scheffler won the event with a -11. Ludvig Aberg finished in second place at -7. Scheffler also won the 2022 edition of The Masters.
The Masters has been held since 1934. Jack Nicklaus holds the record for most wins at The Masters with six. Tiger Woods has five wins at the event. Arnold Palmer has the third most victories at the event with four. If Scheffler can win in 2025, he will join a group of five other players who have won The Masters three times. Of that group, Phil Mickelson is the only active player. The only golfers to win back-to-back at The Masters are Nicklaus, Woods, and Nick Faldo. No one has accomplished the feat since Woods in 2001 and 2002.

2025 Masters betting picks
Rory McIlroy betting breakdown
The No. 2 player on the Official World Golf Rankings, Rory McIlroy has never won The Masters. However, the 35-year-old does have a runner-up finish in the event, finishing second to Scheffler in 2022. McIlroy trailed the winner by three strokes. Last year, he finished tied for 22nd place in the event.
McIlroy is playing excellent golf this year, with some of the best statistics of his career. He has played in five events this year, winning the first tournament he participated in, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He also has a win, in a playoff, at The Players Championship. His worst showing of the year came at The Genesis Invitational, where he placed a respectable (tied) 17th.
McIlroy ranks first in strokes gained (2.319), first in strokes gained off the tee (0.857), 19th in strokes gained: approach to green (0.592), and 10th in strokes gained: putting (0.593).
Collin Morikawa betting breakdown
Collin Morikawa, the No. 4 ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings, has not won a PGA event since he won the Zozo Championship in October 2023. Despite his drought, the 28-year-old is among the betting favorites to claim his first Masters title. Like McIlroy, Morikawa is playing statistically superb golf this year. He has played in five events in 2025, with two runner-up finishes (The Sentry, Arnold Palmer Invitational). He has also tied for 10th (The Players), while finishing no worse than 17th in any of the events he has competed in.
Morikawa has struggled on Sundays as of late, but no one has been striking the ball as well as he has this year overall.
Morikawa ranks second in strokes gained (2.180), 12th in strokes gained off the tee (0.540), first in strokes gained: approach to green (1.190), and 59th in strokes gained: putting (0.182).
Ludvig Aberg betting breakdown
Ludvig Aberg made his first career appearance at The Masters in 2024 and he placed second. Currently the No. 5 ranked player on the Official World Golf Rankings, the 25-year-old is one of the betting favorites to win in 2025.
Aberg should have all the confidence in the world heading into this year’s version of The Masters. One of the best ball strikers in the game, the young player has one win in seven events played in 2025, finishing first at the Genesis Invitational. However, he has failed to make the cut in his past two starts, the Players Championship and the Valero Texas Open. Despite his recent struggles, it’s worth considering Aberg after his performance at the 2024 Masters.
Aberg ranks 70th in strokes gained (0.248), ninth in strokes gained off the tee (0.579), 99th in strokes gained: approach to green (-0.004), and 120th in strokes gained: putting (-0.125).
Best bet to win The Masters in 2025
Rory McIlroy enters the 2025 Masters playing some of the best golf of his career, and it’s hard to bet against him in this event.
The betting pick is for Rory McIlroy to win the 2025 Masters, for his first green jacket.
